front brake pad install

Quick question i didn't find when searching...

Do i need a big c clamp to move the piston out of the way? Or can it be done by hand? or does the piston not need to be moved at all?

the fsm actually doesn't mention moving the piston but i remember doing it a couple of years back on my pulsar nx.

this would be a big help im planning on changing my pads tommorrow (sun) yeah easter i know...

Re: front brake pad install

i changed mine the other day... i put the new pads on, then took the piston and put it against the pad that was closest to the motor then pulled outwards REAL hard and that made the piston go in just enough for me to start sliding it over the new pads

Re: front brake pad install

Yes, I always have needed to push the piston back in, I use a Big ass c-clamp and take the master cyllinder cap off. For the rear calipers, you actually need some needle nose pliers, or a special tool you can get at most auto part stores to twist the piston back into the caliper.
