Adjusting Timing

Ok, Ive done this a few times on my car, or at least I thought I have but maybe just never got it into timing mode.

I did it the other day after I put my S4's in, and when I rotated the Dizzy to advance it, the idle went up. I have never noticed the idle going up while advancing timing before - but maybe it did and i was just too unaware?

so is it supposed to go up when advancing timing? like a couple hundred rpms? 850 - 1050?

and one last question - what do u guys w/ s4's have your timing set at, for the most performance? Im still at 15* *** the idle going up bothered me.

Thanks
Nate

Re: Adjusting Timing

perhaps the rad fans came on while timing, thus causing the idle bump?

Re: Adjusting Timing

my radiator fans are controlled by a switch, they dont work automatically any more.
There wasnt a bump - the idle went up and stayed up

Re: Adjusting Timing

Re: Adjusting Timing

Are the timing marks jumping around when ya look at them? If so you arn't in timing mode.

Re: Adjusting Timing

ok guys, I tried it again. This time the idle didnt go up, so Im thinking it had to do with me not getting into timing mode. right now I am at 17*, and my idle is a lopey 850 rpms. lopey because of s4's.

Timing marks were not jumping either time.

Re: Adjusting Timing

You probably weren't in timing mode. Did you follow the SE-R.net instructions?

Re: Adjusting Timing

i followed the se-r.net info and when i disconnected my tps sensor the idle would not go below 2000 rpm. is that right?

Ya need to set the base idle. If the idle is above 1000 the ECU won't go into timing mode.
