Is my Flywheel busted or my Clutch?? Help please

I was going down the highway about 70 MPH and I came up on an old person driving 45 MPH. I don't really remember but I know I was in 5th gear and and I didn't shift down and I thought I could pass, still in 5th gear at low RPMS and started to pass then CRUNCH!!!!!! I had to pull right over because it was making a grinding noise. (like flywheel teeth) Well I knew the clutch was going to go soon but I don't know what the prob might be now. I had it towed. when I start the car it runs and I push the clutch in and it goes into gear fine (no grinding) then when I let off the clutch the car dies?? Like something in the clutch "area" is caught. Bogs the engine down immediatly. What would cause this problem?? Thanks!

The teeth on the flywheel are for the starter motor gear. Maybe a bolt backed out or something.

Drop the tranny if you can do it yourself. That looks like its the only way to find out. wont be that bad since you were planning on getting a new clutch anyway

drop the tranny and dont let it make the noise anymore. the grinding may be the leftovers of you clutch or Pressure plate that is grinding at your flywheel. hopefully you dont ruin your flywheel...

you may want to drop the tranny first and make sure that you are not going to need a flywheel as well. you can get clutch and flywheel combos for a cheaper rate than getting them seperate. or you may need to get a used stock flywheel from someone on the forum. I never heard of a pro clutch, you probably be best just getting the b15 disc and stock PP. it is probably a little cheaper that something on ebay, and you know you are getting good quality from the dealer.

I say I'm new to nissan yet I have gone completly through the GA16DE and now I am getting ready to go through the SR20DE! What the hell am I getting into??. Which is a more difficult? I know it was a pain in the ass to drop the tranny in the NX1600 but it was auto. Is it harder to drop the SR20 5 Speed Manual? Also how to I get the axles out??? Anyone in the kansas area that would take $100 and a 12 pack of beer to do my clutch job!!!

Re: Is my Flywheel busted or my Clutch?? Help please

ACT doesn't sell clutches in stages. For any car, you are going to want to match your clutch setup for the power of your engine. If you want an after maket setup then my suggestion is go with the clutchnet kits in the Group buy section. But if you only plan on making 170whp then you could spend less money and get a clutch from the dealer. It would be cheaper and could handle the power you plan on making. The b15 disc and standard Pressure plate may save you some money. If you plan on going turbo or nitrous then you may want to get an after maket setup. Warning, do not get a clutch setup that is too strong for your needs. It will make driving a nightmare. A 40% overstock Pressure plate, and a street disc will hold 300whp. you shouldn't need more than this, DO NOT GET A PUCK DISC unless your plans would be in the 400whp range. Last of all.....SEARCH. You will get better answers by searching than by posting....Remember that you may need some money for your flywheel if your current one has been damaged.
