Intake Manifold Differences

I have two JDM intake manifolds, and there are some differences between the two that I have noticed..

Manifold 1 "53J 6" two nipples on plenum where stacks mount, and 4 threaded bolt holes for TB

Manifold 2 "53J 7" one nipple on plenum where stacks mount, and 3 threaded bolt holes for TB (use a through bolt for the other )

What is the reason for these differences, and for a vaccuum line for boost guage I was using one of the nipples on the plenum of manifold 1, but thats obviously not going to work anymore, but I know there are more sources so, not a big deal.

Aside from the appearance and few minor details are there any big differences between these two manifolds?

Re: Intake Manifold Differences

I cannot really see it but do you actually mean that one of them has only 3 holes for the TB?

Sorry the pictures were kinda blurry....but no, both manifolds have all four bolt holes; however, the TB bolt hole in the hupper left of the 53J 7 manifold was not threaded so a through bolt was needed. The 53J 6 manifold has all four TB holes threaded so all 4 stock TB bolts could be used.

Re: Intake Manifold Differences

OK, got it.
Probably just different high-port manifolds for TB and NA applications.
I don't think there should be any difference, maybe the $0.1 it costs to put another niple and another thread up there is justification enough to switch to the 7 version.

Actually, you are right. The 53J 6 is from a DET, and the 53J 7 must be from a DE (my stock DE plenum only has one nipple as well).

So now my questions are...

Anyone know why the extra nipple for the DET plenum? Will it make a difference which plenum I use then on my DET? Thanks

I believe the extra nipple is for the BOV ...I always used USDM intakes for my DET swaps ( EGR made emission testing easy ) so the extra nipple isnt a must , but it is helpfull for an easy place for the BOV and or a gauge .....
