car wont start...AGAIN

ok so i drove my car twice today and it drove fine, it didn't stall or anything, but aobut 2 hours ago i tried to start it up again and it wouldn't start. i hear a click when i turn the key and followed by the sound of what i can only guess is the starter. it sounds like the sound you hear when your ear is ringing or when someone has the TV on

Re: car wont start...AGAIN

Does the sound go away a few seconds later? If so, that's you fuel pump pressurizing the system. Turn the key to ignitition and wait until the sound stops then turn the key all the way. If it doesn't start, try a couple of dozen times without turning your key out of the ignition/accessory setting. If it just keeps clicking, it may be your starter.

I had a similar problem for the past few months only to find out the starter and alternator was fine but the battery could no longer hold a charge. This was only realized after changing the alternator once with no cure and just before I gave in to changing the starter. This was diagnosed with the help of my a-pillar mounted voltmeter (of all things). Power lapses with turn signals and brakes gave it away.

well the sound would stop after a couple of seconds, it's already the morning after and i went to start the car and it started right up.i really wanted to try what you suggested, i'll keep that in mind the next time this happens. oh and about the battery, the first time this happened i recharged the batter not sure if it was done right but it was recharged and it sitll wouldn't start. hopefully all it is is the starter or the battery, thanks for the help
