Chassis Foam

I don't know how many of you have any experience with injecting foam into the chassis, but maybe someone can help me out. I've got 5 kits of ITW's Autoseal product, and I plan on beginning to apply it within the next few days. I've read the instructions on the box, Kojima's article in SCC, and anything else I can find, but I'm still not completely confident about proceeding. If anyone has any hints or suggestions I'd love to hear them. I'm particularly interested in possible prep-work, specific parts of the chassis to foam, and how much to apply. Also, I want to make sure that I'm not doing anything that could have serious detrimental effects. I've done tons of other work on my car, but this job has gotten me nervous.

Thanks for all the help you guys provide.

Re: Chassis Foam

I used expanding spray foam in mine about 6 years ago.. One MAJOR boo-boo was the driver's side quarter panel in the rear. Stay away from the area around the gas-cap, I sealed the switch that opens the gas cap! It took me a few hours to get the stupid gas lid off.

It helped the chassis I believe.. no A-pillar rust, since water couldn't get in it! It sounds much more solid, and feels a little bit better as well, I did everything I could think of at the time, T-top surrounds, A-pillars, quarter panels, everything.

Re: Chassis Foam

I sprayed FOAM to stop most of the echoing vibrations from the motor in my cabin.
I used the SUPER EXPANDING STUFF. It worked.
I sprayed it all along the inside of the frame around the doors, under the seats and REAR quarter panels. Even up front by the sides of the dash.

Re: Chassis Foam

Never use the cheapo foam from home improvement stores to do this guys. Its not all that stiff, the stuff in the middle will never harden, and it soaks water up like a sponge. It will help rust your car out quickly.

Re: Chassis Foam

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know how I could Mike K to give me some pointers on this? I tried PMing him about a month back, but I got no response. I know he must be a busy man, what with everyone wanting to pick his brain, but I'd love to get some advice from him seeing as how he has experience with this particular product and has applied it to at least 2 cars.

Thanks again.
