transmission fluid leak

I noticed after i installed my clutch there was a little bit of tranny fluid dripping where the shift rod connects to the tranny. Could it be the wrong type of fluid im using to cause it to leak?

Re: transmission fluid leak

I doubt the type of tranny fluid matters. Check your seals, they may be leaking. My driver side axle seal is leaking a little a day, and I definitely need to get it fixed before my tranny gets worse -_-

Re: transmission fluid leak

That is kinda a odd place for it to leak. Are you sure the reverse light switch isn't the cause instead, or the PS axle seal?

Re: transmission fluid leak

Don't be suprised if that is where it's coming from, where the shift rod goes into the tranny?? I had this happen to me, I had to bring the tranny down to a tranny shop and had them rip it apart and replace the seal. Damn expensive for a seal, but it stopped the leak.

What really sucks is that the tranny that I did this to was my 3rd one in there. I ended up wheel hopping it to death on my first run of the night at the drags. And I ended up killing a good $800 tranny.

So again it is possible that it is coming from there. Sorry, I just had to tell my sad story.

Re: transmission fluid leak

also that rubber boot that goes over the shaft will not stay on. The shaft is kinda exposed. How can i keep that rubber seal on there?
