Re: cam dowel marks, are mine right?

ok heres my idea now... since i have access to the chain on the CRANK sprocket, if i mark the 1st roller, and mark the last mark before the exhaust cam, wont that guarantee the timing? i believe it is 48 links between exhaust dot and crank dot?

Re: cam dowel marks, are mine right?

he may have the cam timing correct from looking at it now, what i said should only be done if you cannot hit 15* ignition timing with the dizzy near the center, only move if you have a problem getting you ignition timing near 15* with the dizzy in the middle. if you have no problem with that and your idle is somewhat smooth, i don't think you have a cam timing issue

Re: cam dowel marks, are mine right?

you should beable to get the crank dot to line up and fix it at the cams...thats what i did. not to bad,lot easer then pulling the timing cover and oil pans.

That is a good idea, it will tell you if you need to advance/retard the exhaust side. After you fix the exhaust side count 20 pins over and put on the intake sprocket.

Re: cam dowel marks, are mine right?

im putting a motor in it

i think the problems go beyond cam timing.. i pull the wires off of 2 and 3 and you barely notice a difference, the car hesitates bad enough to hit your face on the steering wheel... etc...

im done screwin with useless sh*t, ill start from scratch.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but it seems like I'm not the only one that had difficulty verifying the timing to the cam shafts. Does anyone here want me to do a write up on the subject?
