Well, on my brothers 93NX2K, he spun out, went in a lake, about wheel high. Computer was toast, replaced that. Had water in the gas, drained and replaced it. Changed the oil and plugs. Car still has a miss to it. seems like its only running on 2cylinders, if that. Had very little power. Also the exhaust, near the cat starts to glow and smoke if you drive it for say 5min.
Timing maybe? It has spark, checked the fuel filter, seems fine. Could it maybe have jumped a few teeth on the timing chain when he spun out? Going about 90km/hr forward, spinning around in reverse, maybe caused it to jump a few teeth?
it is impossible to skip teeth on the timing chain. other than that i think it could be a lot of things. you're just gonna have to start going through things one at a time. is it possible any water went throught the engine. maybe just a little went through and bent a rod or somthing. who knows?

maybe, could have. Thin is, he claims when it whipped around on him, it died, lights went out and everything, which doesnt make sense really. So it was never running in the water.
I'll do a compression check to see if it shows any real bad drops.
it is hard to say what to check. i would start with making sure all the sensors and so forth are plugged in and didn't get water damage or anything. sort of sounds like it is running lean if the exhaust is glowing red. maybe it somehow damaged the cat or clogged it or somthing. i am not sure if that is possible. anybody else got any ideas...
yeah, lord knows what got wet and stopped working. Thats what i thought though, running lean. But why is it running so rough? Thats what makes me think timing, which would also make sense. How do you check the timing on these cars? Or do you have to pull the valve cover and check it their?
if you want to check to see if it skipped a tooth on the timing chain, which i think is damn near impossible to do, you have to take off the valve cover. with the crank pulley at tdc (0*) the dowl pins on the cams should be at 10 and 12 for the intake and exhaust cams, respectivley. if you just want to check the timing you just need a timing light and be able to get the car in timing mode. do a quick seach to find out how. depending on the amount of water he went through who knows what could have gotten wet. how does the maf look?
Sounds like he might have broken the CAT brick and clogged it up, that would explain the red-hot spot right before the CAT. Open the header and see how it runs.

i vote for clogged cat as well, possibly water in the distributor cap or damaged ignition wires, how did you get water in the tank?
airbag flashing means there was something damaged when the car hit the water, perhaps the airbag sensor that is at the front of the vehicle.
check the cap and rotor and do a power balance test to see which are the offending cylinders.
keep us posted

Had the cap off, no water in that. The top of the motor seemed fairly dry. He went in the lake ass end first, so maybe he hit the cat and clogged it. You can feel the air coming out of muffler fairly good, but i'll check it anyways.
How do you do the power balance?
I supose the water entered the gas tank through the vents in the tank.
I would say clogged cat/exhaust. I had a friend whose exhaust got plugged up, melted his cat, and started sending out chunks of red hot metal out the tailpipe. It was so bad he even started a fire unknowingly on the side of the road! Get that exhaust checked out.

Drive it like you stole it (or at least try to before it breaks)
get underneath the car and get a rubber mallet (or metal) and tap at the beginning of the cat, middle and the end, it should sound hollow with no rattles.
the power balance test is conducted with the engine in normal operating range, disconnect each spark plug wire seperately and see if the engine stumbles with each one, if the engine runs the same when you pull one of the wires , then you know that you have a "dead hole", if thats the case then you need to determine why its dead (injector, wire, plug, valves) remember air, fuel, spark, and compression is all you need to run these engines.
keep it simple.
you can also do an injector balance test too.
---off topic--- i see you have 5.0 in your sig, do you have a mustang?
nevermind i say in your first post that you have a "faleen"
never heard of one of those do you mean saleen?
