MAF mods for more airflow

Has anyone tried to "port" the MAF? The bellmouth to the main airflow passage in the MAF is not a really good bell. I'm sure a little grinding and polishing would produce a more efficient flow transistion. But what would this do to my MAF readings? Seems that if the main flowed more but the sense port flowed the same, I'd be running lean? Has anyone seen any real data on doing this? Mike?

Re: MAF mods for more airflow

Lots of people have used bored MAFs. Search for those 2 words (bored MAF) in here.
You are correct on the lean-running effect of the bored MAF and its origin.

There are real data but anything you may get is dependent on the person/process for boring the MAF. No two jobs will have the exact same results unless the process is automated and I do not know of anyone doing it on a CNC machine. What they mostly do is do a good and smooth boring job and then tune by monitoring the resulting AFR.
