shifting problems help!

my problem is that it is very hard to shift into any gear at anytime (either car on in neutral, at speed or car off). Sometimes its as if the tranny is jammed. it would be stuck in a gear or can't find gears.

So at this point this is what I've done...

Engine mounts are new w/ polyurethane in them.
Checked adjustment of cable
drained gear oil (was fine no chunks)
removed the tranny and clutch
opened the tranny

The clutch is a cheap pos and was ready to pop a spring it didn't.
The tranny was fine internally as well (as far as I could tell, not too experienced at this part). Only part that looked really worn was the reverse gear and that was just one side of it.

What happened was one day I was drving the car fairly hard and it made a horrible noise can't remember what it sounded like, all I remember is that my stomach cringed. I drove home normally that day and didn't drive the car for a few days and when I finally drove it again, the car was noisy as hell grinding groaning and along with the shifting problems.

I'm thinking that maybe the input shaft bearing or other bearings are bad in the tranny, it was noisy prior to the incident (whirring, like), but not this bad.

Any other ideas? Am I on track? any help appreciated!

synchros? well, thing is that it doesn't explain why it'll jam in the gear (ie stuck in 3rd). But shifting was fine until just one day...

Actually I don't know, when I bought the car, it came with a clutch in a white box. the PP has the mark DK on it. I think it might of been ebay.

The new clutch I'm putting in is a ACT HD PP w/ 2001 SE oem disc

another question...are the gear stacks and diff suppose wobble with the top casing removed?

anyone want some gears from a G20? lol

P.S. copy and paste the link...

the 2nd pic is where the end of the mainshaft sits in when the case is closed.
The 2st pic is of the mainshaft end where it fits in the 2nd pic.

That bearing is seized btw.

Re: shifting problems help!

ouch... that definitely doesn't look too good. I'm having a shop replace the bearing in the second pic, and the needle bearing on the mainshaft because of a whirring noise coming from the tranny. They already replaced the input shaft bearing and some other bearing, but the whirring noise is still there.

Yeah I betcha thats your problem. Once I got that whirring noise, the tranny lasted about 7000miles.

I ended up getting a classic se-r tranny. its all better now.

the DK mark means its a Daikin pressure plate. How many springs were on the hub?
