How do you solve egr problems when swapping high port obdI with low port obdII?
My friend Mark brought to my attention on the new motor I got that the egr plugs on it are different when compared to my original '96 g20 low port motor. Now I know it won't make much difference to just leave it be but there will be a cel and I need to get my registration renewed so i won't pass. I tried searching and didn't come up with a whole lot. Has anyone else encountered this problem? What was done to solve it?

I think i have the opposite issue from you. I am installing a lowport in a 92 G20, it was originally the high port. I guess since the plugs will be different i will try splicing the other plugs onto the wire harness. We'll see if it works in a few days.

Sorry, It didn't work. There are different plugs and I did not want to cut up my harness to determine if it would work with the different ECU and motor.
Check the wire colors in each plug. If they're the same, and the plugs have the same number of pins, then it's likely that you can cut off and swap the plugs.

The highport has 3 EGR plugs if I remember correctly. The temp sensor which is the same, and then it has 2 other plugs that are the stupid ones that use the little metal clip to hold it in place. (similar to the knock sensor). One plug is mounted under the TB and the other is just to the right or the EGR Equipment. I think that the low port only has one of these plugs. I will have to double check. If it has both of them then I will check to see if I have the extra plugs and will do the swap in a couple days. Also even though the EGR temp sensor is the same plug I think the sensor is different. I remember b14xser had swapped the high and low port EGR temp sensors and he got a CEL. I will get back to everyone this weekend on what happens.

The hi-port doesn't have an EGR temp sensor. Only a solenoid for the BPT valve and one for the AIV valve, IIRC.
the high port has 3 plugs, I dunno what they do. 2 are little vacuum ports. and the other is a little screw in sensor. this little screw in sensor is also on the low port and has the same big grey plug. I thought it was a temp sensor, apparently not.
I will have to check if the low port has the other 2 vacuum ports.
