Leaking Power Steering fluid. ANyone with suggestions?

NOTE: Not my engine bay and Sorry fo the image-jacking but it was the one readily available.

Found leaked fluid on the bottom of my garage just below the front right control arm. Fluid was pink-ish, oily but definitely not engine oil and pretty clear.

Checked engine bay and it seems the guilty part is the large hose on the top left of the picture (going from the STB to the back of the engine). It seems that the leak comes from the "brace" that holds this line on the intake manifold.

Checked Power steering oil container and indeed the fluid was way below the cool line on the indicator and it was the same staff found on the garage-floor.

Has anyone had this happen to him?

Chris

I have the same exact leak on my 190,000 mile 91 NX. That hose is $$$ from the dealer. I got a replacement hose from a buddy and just need to get off my ass & replace it.

Mine seems to have a leak, but I never have anything under the car... Ben Moses told me that the B13 resovoirs are prone to leakage, and replacing with a B14 seems to fix the problem.

Re: Leaking Power Steering fluid. ANyone with suggestions?

That's very common. Next time you're at a track event, check most B13's and you'll see them with fluid all over the PS reservoir. It's my understanding that the B14 res is a direct swap, but it has a sealed cap.

It's a strait swap with the B-14. Or ya could just use small rag and a ziptie It works.

At your service, Chris! Let me know if you are really thinking of doing this. I could throw in a few suggestions!

Re: Leaking Power Steering fluid. ANyone with suggestions?

Harris,

I am not really thinking of doing what you think I think of doing!!!

I am simply on the hunt for people that actually did what you think I think of doing and have an extra hose they need to save from the garbage!!!

Re: Leaking Power Steering fluid. ANyone with suggestions?

Chris, you should have said so! I wouldn't have stated I what thought you were thinking. At least we both are now correctly thinking instead of guessing on what we both are thinking. Now that the thing I'm thinking is in line with what you are thinking, that is what everyone else should be thinking too!

Re: Leaking Power Steering fluid. ANyone with suggestions?

Ok, now that I have "researched" the issue I need some more info.

1. Indeed, the leakage comes from this line.
2. It is not so severe yet that I cannot keep topping the PS fluid with Dexron for a little while.
3. The hose down here costs close to US$220 so this is OUT OF THE QUESTION.
4. The highest quality high-preessure hose I can buy here by the meter costs ~ US$20 per meter !!!!!! (probably 60-80 cm needed).

It is obvious that I will be doing it myself using hose from #4 above.

NOW, the question for those who have changed/seen it chaged: is there anything special at the ends of the replacement hose that may need special tools to put in or whatever? Are there special ends fitted to the hose or I can simply use those on teh original hose?

Re: Leaking Power Steering fluid. ANyone with suggestions?

Chris,

It's a high pressure hydraulic hose with crimped ends. You're not going to be able to make your own. Just keep your eyes open for someone parting out a car, and you can probably get one for $20 or so.

I just changed mine last weekend and it's an easy job. You'll need a pretty large socket (22 or 24mm?) for the bottom bolt.
