Will a bad knock sensor keep the engine computer from going into timing mode? My ECU is throwing a DTC 34 - Knock sensor. Am I correct in assuming that this is actually a problem in the knock sensor as opposed to actual knocking. This may explain why my engine runs at ~5 Deg BTDC when the ECU is in total control of the timing... any thoughts?
Yeah a bad knock sensor will bump your timing back, I had a similar problem I replaced the knock sensor but the code still apeared. I think I finally fixed it when I found out that the knock sensor connector hooks up to a connector by the injectors. Replace the sensor it's not that hard.
