Bad BPT valve?

I noticed today the foam ring around my BPT valve was torn, had holes in it, and was pushed in in certain places. Would this cause it run poorly? Could that be contributing to my high nox readings?

Since the BPT controls the EGR, then I'd say so. it needs to be sending a vacuum signal to the EGR valve to open it. If you have a vacuum gauge, you can test the BPT valve (under load) to see if its working.

the bpt valve could cause high nox readings, but the foam ring doesn't do much. you should probably unbolt it and make sure it is clean. search around, there is a procedure on here to make sure everything is working

I was having BPT problems. I just replaced it. Mine had no foam at all. I got the new one on and my cars MPG jumped from a maximum of 22 mpg (driving like an ass) all the way up to 26.6 (once again driving hard). A bad BPT will cause your egr valve to operate sporadically or not at all. Take off the BPT and test it. Put a clean peice of vacuum or some sort of tube on the part on the bottom that gets the exhaust gasses from your breather tube. Blow into it and listen to see if the valve is clicking. It shouldnt take much to make the valve open and shut. Its controlled by exhaust gases going into the bottom port, which will open and shut the valve, sending vacuum to the EGR, so if its stuck open or shut engine vacuum will either be supplied to your egr all the time or not at all. If its open all the time you will have idle problems and if its not working at all you should have hesitation and surge problems and be running rich. I bought my new one for $50 off of discountnissanparts.com (I think that was the name of the site).
Suprsingly it made a major positive diference in how much my car pulled especially under light to medium throttle.
