Dynoed my VVL

Finally got it done, I was actually expecting a few more hp

First, here's my mods

sr20ve (roughly 12k miles on the motor)
sr16ve cams
fidanza flywheel
jwt pop charger
short ram intake
HS gen 6 header (full 3")
3" exhaust, no cat
jwt cam gears (set at +5, -5)

I did the first run with the VVL disconnected, that got me 118whp, 128tq. Some of the honda guys thought it was funny that I only made that much

Second run I connected the solenoids, and that got me 183whp, 146tq. Thats when people looked like ----> <-----

Third run I tried 4th gear, that got me 175whp and 146tq.

After the dyno, everyone there gathered around to see what the hell the car had. I got lots of props from people there, including the owner of the shop. My car made the highest all motor VTEC that day

I had planned to see if there's any hp difference with the taylor 10.4mm wires, but after that first run, they couldnt get an accurate read out, so I threw some stock wires on the car.

Anyway, I had hoped to get over 190hp with the full 3" exhaust and cam gears (goin by what eric96ser made with his setup).

Some questions come to mind now. I wonder if the cam gears are helping any, and is the HS header really what its cracked up to be?

I have a couple of videos of the dyno, and i'll be posting that on monday.

Nice man, i wish i coulda been there to see the look of the Honda boys.
so u dyoned the 183 in the 3rd gear and then the 175 in 4th gear. you have a jwt ecu also right?
i always thought that 4th gear was more for turbo cars.

I remember how loud it was! Serban, FYI, linus in NJ put down 181 WHP on a stock SR20VE, fitsu header, 2.5" catback with a CAT and a resenator! I would think that you should have put down more especailly with the cams and a full 3". I think the HS header is NOT all that its cracked up to be...

I have gotten between 185-189whp/150 torque in 3rd gear (should not make a difference they say). SR16 Cams, Fuji header, 2.5 Exhaust, CAI by me, No cam gears, no cat, JUN flywheel, I think that is it. Someone needs to test that header and a Fuji header on the same car on the same day.

So you only made 3 runs? Did you simply just dyno the car or was any tuning involved. Im sure more HP is there with some adjustments to fuel pressure, timing, and cam timing. I originally dynoed around 155 and after tuning came out to 175 with the mods in my sig, a pretty basic setup.

On another note, is it the SR16 cams that help increase torque. It seems everyone with those cams are making 10-12 more wtq than those with stock cams.

Don't forget about the different dyno types out there.

When I talked to Kojima about the cam gears, he said it would hurt the top end, but move the powerband down. I think that is what happened to your car. Do you have the print out? 118whp with the cams off sounds low. Mine made 132whp on the small cams. Others who dyno higher on the small cams, are usually running the SR20VE cams, which have a bigger small lobe than the SR16 cams. Its really hard to compare what you got on your dyno, vs what others get one their dynos. Different conditions and other variables. 183whp is nothing to be mad about. I made the same power with a HotShot 2nd gen.

Serban....don't be upset. I just heard from a reliable source that the Cartek dyno reads about 5%-8% lower than the dyno at Lujan, so you could have easily hit about 191-197 on Lujan's dyno

In that case....I guess my car would probably read 331-341 on Lujan's dyno Lujan is having a dyno day on the 22nd, so I guess I'll test that theory out to confirm this info

Try a CAI extention Serban, that could be your 4+hp right there. Also is the timming still messed up? Where is it at right now?

That is true, because I belive the use SAE #'s, not STD like most of the local dyno's.
