Well, My buddy Chris and I went about installing my Msd window switch yesterday to switch over the cams at the same time. We set the initial switch at 4600 I believe, and it made a horrible noise and bucked uncontrollably. Then we raised it up to 5200, which was still too low apparently because it would kick in decently in 1st, then 2nd would buck and third wouldnt let the car accelerate past where the vvl kicks in. Next, we raised it to 6000 where it switched more smoothly, however it still bucked for a second in 2nd and 3rd struggles through.
I will note, once the vvl smooths out past the bucking, that sucker pulls like crazy.
If it helps at all, I am running the de ecu and maf, with sr16ve injectors and a pacesetter header and we had bumped the timing up to 21 degrees to help smooth it out a bit, which it did a little. I also have a 2.25' Exaust. Is this just a simple tuning issue...the plugs that are in their a pretty fouled....what do you guys think, we are open to all suggestions. Thanks
I forgot about them ugly plugs in there. I would change those. Also consider geting another side job so you can get an ecu and MAF. Otherwise, you should swap injectors with the DE ones until you do. Glad you got the MSD to work.

I agree...we should put the DE injectors back in until you get the cash together for the ECU/MAF. It is essentially part of this engine. If you don't have the right management, there is no point in even having the engine in there. Those plugs have to go, too.
Oh, and Li, thanks for the help with the MSD

Ok well, Lets put in the old injectors then. I will have to get them from my other engine, and I will work on getting the ecu and maf, unfortuantely i have two tickets to pay for and a court appearance, so lay off the get another job suggestions there!
yeh chuck in a fresh set of plugs and see how it goes. when i was running de ecu with sr20ve injectors the plugs would foul after 500kms of driving and keep missing

Sorry, didn't mean to step on your toes. i was just bustin your butt! Anyways, when we got JerseyJ's brothers motor running, it was real rough. As it urned out the plugs were old and yucky not to mention gapped wrong. Once we put better plugs in, the engine ran like a champ. Not sure whether new plugs will make a huge difference but I am willing to bet that it will make some difference. If you plan on running the car without the ecu and MAF for a while, you're def going to need to swap injectors. (Chris loves doing that so it shouldn't be a big deal )
BTW, no problemo on the MSD help Chris. Just passing info that other sr20 guys have shared with me. Since you have the wire colors fresh in your head, let me know them again so we can put some wiring info in the FAQ for that thing.
I had a similar setup. Switching to the de injectors didn't help much (tried it). The best setup I've found without going to a jw ecu is sr20ve ecu (or sr16ve ecu even better) ve maf, inj.
I had that same problem when running the de ecu. Also, it just pulled much harder all throughout the rev's with the ve ecu. If you have a the ve ecu try running that (you just need to get that pathfinder maf (ve maf))-- you will notice a big difference.
