Originally posted by CNibbana I'm curious how we are going to fab an exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold to the cat, or should the VE exhaust manifold mate up to the DE downpipe?
Does anyone know what Chris is using to connect the VE manifold to the downpipe on his sr20ve motors.
Also is he using the JWT ECU w/ daughter board, or just the ecu with a cam switchover device?
Ah probaly can fab up something cheaper for the secondary. Seeing that primary, unless Hotshot can say for SURE they are going to make a header, Id just get that thing extrude honed and then coated. It is a decent piece as is. As for the sensors...id be real careful, Ive seen alot of cars with dead knock sensors and never even notice it half the time. Id just be conserned with the DE MAF running out if you do to much to the engine. then the VE MAF also could be damaged who knows. Didnt see you had a 94 should pay attention. heard you gota do some sqeezing for the CAI to fit but nothing terrible.
as for the belt there should be a listing on most store's computers for a non ac belt for the se-r. but the bad thing is it is a 4 rib belt. but there is a secret to getting the 6 rib. most belts have a logical numbering to them. its the lenght in like mm then the number of ribs. if you got a good parts person talking to ya they should be able to look on the rack with all the belts and find one that is the same length but 6 ribs. 4 ribs work just put them all the way to the back of the pulley. But you should be able to find a 6 rib that works.
I have asked Ben Davis about our own category for the VE in this forum. He has asked me to remind him about that in a couple of days.

Just for informations sake. JWT uses the NOS daughterboard to run the cam switchover. Only thing is unlike the Stock VVL ECU which switches over the intake first and then the exhaust the JWT switches them both at the same time. I would think JWT's ECU is decent, since they had my friend Carl's car there for almost a year and had plenty of time to tune it

When I spoke to Ben @ JWT he said for an extra $30 they could emulate the VE ECU with an asynchronis cam switch. I need to speak with Clark himself to feel totally confident of the programming. By now they should have flow data on the VE MAF vs. the DE MAF. If they're comparable I'll be using the DE MAF to keep it more of a plug and play affair. The other thing that crossed my mind is the compatability of the DE vs. VE TPS. If possible I'd like to use the DE TPS. Again, to make it more of a plug and play affair. I want to keep the cutting and splicing of the DE wire harness to a minimum.
Has anyone though of running a stand alone system like Haltech or SDS with the VE? I know it's more expensive than having JWT reprogram the ECU and not smog freindly, but if I was going all out on a VE I would personally run the Haltech E6/E6k unit. Any comments?

The only problem with that is getting it tuned properly, at least for me anyways. There aren't alot (if any) of speed shops around here that have much (if any) EFI tuning experience, most know carbs only (domestic v-8s ) Anyways that would be a way to get 'all' the power out of the motor, how would switch the cams? does the Haltech offer something for this? The other thing I had mentioned in the 'other' thread would be to use a Super AF-C with the built in V-tec controller, but then again I don't have the tuning experience for that either.

It's certainly a viable option but one that will only be explored if all else fails. (for me anyway) I'm not very electronically inclined in my old age. I had a hard enough time hooking up my DVD player to the home theatre a few months ago.

how difficult was it to aquire?
O
I think it was first introduced in the 1997 Primera P11. You should see the VE motor Nissan is putting in the 02 Primera P12. It generates 205hp stock with a throttle by wire configuration. JUN said they could get one for $5k plus shipping. Too rich for my blood.
The P11 VVL motors are becoming more readily available every day. It's relatively easy to get one if you're willing to wait.
do you think nismo will carry parts for the vvl when it comes here? that way it will be easier to do all the cam and head swapping dre and everyone was talking about

I'd be surprised if they didn't carry parts for the VE.
