Need to clean the VE...???

My VE looks VERY weathered from outside, but the inside looks all sparkly and stuff thank goodness....

What can I use to clean the alloy block and head and the manifold etc. It's not just simple dirt and grime, but more like soap scum type effect.

What can I use to give the alloy that new look finish??

I tried Simple Green and a rag when the motor was out of the car. It is not the most effective way to do the job. Very diffacult, and time consuming...and the end result is mediocre at best. I suggest following chris200t's advice.

OR have it professionally steamed.

Definately degreaser, a hose and a rag. It did wonders for my engine when the oil filter gave way, and sprayed all the oil everywhere.
