distro on VE

Just wondering about using the ditributor and wires instead of the internal coils on the VE. Why do you have to do this?
I know the rotor senses the exhaust camshaft position to "figure" out the crank angle. Not sure how the VE does this. I thought distro and wires were less precise, and somewhat archaic. Is it just for compatability in US cars?

yeah thats what I was wondering. I've heard that people in the states convert it to a distributor setup. That and how the coil setup works.

Andreas would be the man to ask, when he gets the time to waste and come on here. From my conversation with him the VE uses the 'internal' coil distributor. So the coil in under the distributor cap, as opposed to the B-13 that have external coil. I pretty sure it doesn't use a 'coil pack' like black top s-15 DE-Ts. But then again I don't have my VE ordered yet so all I have is second hand info.

you need to convert it to a distributor compatible with our ECUs, unless you somehow use the VE ECU and wiring harness.

Andreas is better to answer this but I'm pretty sure the 97-01 VE engines use a distributor with an internal coil just like the 95 and up DE's. No rewiring would be necessary if you use the stock DE harness. If you have a 91-94 harness you'll have to split wires from the DE harness and feed them to the internal VE coil.

I think the 02 VE engine rated at 205hp uses coil packs and an electronic throttle or throttle by wire system. This would be a pretty complicated swap.
