Crank: same between DE and VE?

Anyone know if the crank is the same on both engines? If so, then you might be able to take the 2.3L stroker kit being developed for the DE and apply it to the VE. Anyone ready for an SR23VE?

Cranks from 91-99 are all the same, these cranks are 8 counter weight cranks. All of these motors run a girdle in the block. All 2000 and newer SR20s run the 4 counter weight crank which is 8 pounds lighter. These motors all come roller rocker. In Japan this change over to roller rocker started in 97. Also all VVL motors come with the 4 counter weight crank and no girdle.

What are the advantages of a 4 counter weight crank? Are they considered better and are they as stout as the 8 counter weight crank? Sorry for the lame questions. I'm trying to educate myself.

It seems highly ambitious to make an SR23VE but I haven't even seen an SR23DE. I think VE is very high compression. This might compound the problem. It all seems to revolve around using the right crank. BTW teh VE has a closed deck block?

I WILL be stroking my VE to 2.2L and having DPR do some headwork. 2.2L SR20DET's are already running around via TODA and JUN stroking kits.

Well if you are going to do what you say about stroking the motor, you are better off getting a SR16VE motor from me. Why, it will cost you less because you will have the SR16VE cams that you will not have to buy and you will be replacing the crank, rod and pistons which you will not need from the SR16VE.

If you take a look a look at my last (black) SE-R you will see that I like doing things the hard way. Besides, the SR20VE has more torque.

Whether it has more torque or not is meaning less because the motor will be a 2.3 when you are done. If you were to go up on the dicplacement of the SR16VE it would have more torque than the SR20VE because of the cams. Remeber there is a direct relationship to dispacement and torque output. So you can not compare the 2 motors in that way.

It didn't occur to me to stroke the 1.6 to 2.3, but even then I would still need new rods, pistons and crank right?

If this were true, the only difference would be the 16 cams.

I'm looking at quite a while before I'll be able to afford stroking the motor, and I don't think I'll be able to live with 173hp in the SR16VE in the meantime.

Now you got it, if you are going to buy all these things crank, rods and pistons then just get a SR16VE. The cost would be cheaper this way because you would save money on the cams.

Got it Thanks

Now, you mentioned we might be able to get the SR16VE cams at a US Nissan dealer? What part would I ask them for?

Or do you have them and how much will they cost? (I think you said about $300 each in the other thread)

When will you have those super trick cams that you said will cost about $1000 ?
