The Bad Gas Mileage Saga continues....

Well, here it is...16mpg consistently on an sr16ve. NO matter how i drive, i get between 16-18 mpg all the time with mixed highway/city driving. We have tried everything you can think of practically to fix this problem.
- Ecu has been programmed twice to correct the problem = no change
- Full tuneup has been done = no change
- o2 sensor changed = no change
- Maxima maf wiring checked and switched then switched back = no change
- Exhaust leaks fixed = no change
- injectors checked for leaks = no leaks = no change
- Oil changed on regualr intervals = no change
- Wheels checked for brake drag - one wheel is dragging - next culprit to check
:: She runs strong and pulls hard to redline, vvl engagement at 5300 for in/ex.
:: She puffs out big clouds of black smoke when vvl is engaged and my back bumpter is covered in exhaust soot.
- I dont know what to check anymore. The brake drag is going to be the next thing i look at and i will also be getting an fuel pressure gauge. If anyone has any ideas or clues....im open to them.

A couple things, check tire pressure also put the ecu in mode I to monitor the o2 condition. The CEL should go ON to OFF more than 5 times in 10 sec.

what do your plugs look like? have you checked your fuel lines for leaks? Have you checked the TPS voltage to make sure its within spec? Is the ECU throwing any codes? Has the motor been compression tested? Go to the dyno and get an a/f vs rpm printout to see if it is running rich all over or just in the VVL. Its its all over then you can fix it with an fpr and tuning i think. 16 MPG is pretty bad, i get around 22 - 24 in my sr20ve. Not sure what else to say, i dont have any experience with the sr16. good luck.

I have just the fuel pressure regulator that comes with the sr16 on the fuel line...i still have to get a fuel pressure gauge to see what shes reading at.

My question is this.....do the sr20ve and sr16ve have different fuel maps??

Like i said, im currently running an sr20ve program and i previously had an sr16 program and i still ran just as rich.

As per sr20sleeper's advice, did you check the TPS voltages?

I'm getting pretty bad gas mileage myself - not sure if it's as bad a s 16 mpg - but my car's been a gas-guzzler ever since the swap -
However, I also have a few things to blame - such as my current DE ECU..

I ran my car at 100 mph for 65 miles. I have beat on it this whole tank. I will still get 24. 180,000 miles on the motor too. I got 30 on the last tank! I bet if I baby it I can get 32!

That is insanely low mileage.... My fpr broke (pressure always up) on my turbo setup and was just dumping fuel to a point where it wouldn't idle at all and I still got 21 mpg.

why would the tps voltage be a factor in the bad gas mileage saga?
