I want to know the size range for the VE valve shims. I was checking a head and i think the smallest was about 2.67mm, the largest was 2.81mm, thats just .01 larger than the smallest DE shim. (DE's go from 2.80-3.20)
What am i supposed to do after putting my head back together and re-checking clearance? Have my machine-shop mill some thick DE shims to size?!
Does Mossy have the ability to get VE shims? they probably list at about $10ea.

the shims are super expensive. I'm pretty sure the shim ranges are very similair to the de. When i had a valve job done I had the machine shop set the valve lash. I know he did it with what he had. So its possible he may of shaved the valve's a bit on some. What i do know is it used to tick bad, now it's quiet as ever.
Available valve shim sizes are in the "Service Data and Specs" section in the back of the "Engine Mechanical" section of the factory service manual. If you need me to list them I can. They go from 2.00mm(.0787in)-2.98mm(.1173in)
So just to clarify, the thickness of the shims located on top of the valve springs under the rockers range from 2.8 to 3.2mm in thickness, and the clearance between the rockers and the low cam lobes needs to be 0.15mm ?
I think your original suggestion of milling the DE shims smaller to get your desired lash would be perfect.
So if you can find the correct clearance or lash then you're sorted. (And you will answer my question simultaneously :-) It seems to be 0.15mm though...inconclusive so far.
