Aftermarket ECU for sr20ve

hey there,
after hearing bout the troubles ppl have been havin with matching afm's, ecu's and injectors i thought that maybe a stand-alone ECU could solve some of these woes.

I thought of possibly using a Microtech which deletes the the need for an afm.
maybe customsing an sr20 map of some sort?

sorry if this has been discussed already, and correct me if im wrong.

*** are u US guys running in the way of ecu's in ur VE's?
i mean, when i do the conversion to ve, i dont want my fun to be spoiled by the damn 7200 cut out of the standard sr20ve ecu!

any ideas or feedback on the matter would be much appreciated!

cheers

In the US we use ECUs programmed by JWT (Jim Wolf Technology). Its the easy way out for most people, but some people tune their own ECU or get a piggyback (GReddy Emanage, S-AFC) for more power. Personally I took the easy way out, and got a JWT, plugs right in, and you're ready to drive.

I'm using one of Calum's tuned ecu's. Another option is the SR16VE ecu for the OBD1 guys.

I am using Apexi PowerFC in my pulsar. Most full aftermarket ecu's will have an output to do it

thx for the replies guys.

it might be a bit hard to get my ecu programmed by JWT, since im in OZ! haha
seriously ***, i might have to look into a few standalone ecu's, but as u said garyd, most would be able to do it.

i want something reliable,(cold start etc. no probs), price, well i spose ya get what ya pay for, but then again i dont think ill be forking out the dosh for a Motec or something! and finally, that it can be easily tuned by someone here in OZ. (i dont wanna travel half way across the country to get it tuned!)

Ive heard good things about microtech, EMS, Haltech and Apexi but im not quite sure which one would be suitable for the VE, since most ive seen are catered for turbo cars.

thx ppls

cheers

Well ap engineering (the guys who mod the ecus for apexi) dont sell the gtir ecu's any more so you cant get one of those. I would stay away from microtech and ems, there is much better out there for the money. A Wolf3D Gtir ecu should plug directly into your loom (just like the ap engineering ones do). IMO this is much nicer than having to run custom sensors, rewiring and sh*t. Just unplug your old ecy, plug the new one in and get it tuned

My powerfc was cheaper than a haltech to buy, not to mention i didnt need any install, just plug and play.

Yea..
i know AP engineering for Power FC is plug and play
i think is about USD 1200
Non AP car model is about USD 800

different country have different propective of ECU due to tuning and installation cost.
i know Aussie ECU is cheap.. but when come to tuning and installation
it cost a bomb

here at malaysia, New Haltech E8 plus installation and tuning is 1500
so which one you will like to get ?

Gary D,
i was told AP division is closed
but they still make it.. i not sure on this
since i know you still can order it

I just want to call APEXI and scold them, why you all never make MASS produce POWER FC for RNN14 ?
but heck, i dont know japanese language so cannot scold them

Yep thats right theyre closed. Didnt realise they were still selling them though. Maybe left over stock.

If haltech is that cheap... then yeh cant argue with that There were people importing Gtir PowerFCs for $1200AU

I am selling my Power FC, it needs the MAF sensor as they do not make a D jetro FWD. It does use a MAP sensor to fine tune the idle and allow the use of open BOVs. I have the ECU, commander, MAP sensor and Q45 MAF. I would like to get $1500 usd for it all as i have over $2000 invested. used for about 1 month. I will also leave the current maps and programming in it.
