Internals question???

Do you guys know if the internal from a SR20DE are the same as the SR20VE. If it's the same engine block as well??

Thanks.

Unless I'm mistaken the block is about the only thing in common with the DE.

The VE has different pistons (11:1 compression), a lighter crank, different head etc etc.

Come to think of it the block is also different cause the ports for the exhaust manifold are not quite in the same position

Thanks a lot for your answer that's what I was looking for . I wanted to know if I could drop an SR20VE head on a SR20DE, but I guess you can't unless you change the internal.

Thanks anyway.

The block is the same, except for some oil passages between the head and block which can be drilled. The VE block has oil squirters, different pistons, and a different crank. These could also be installed in a DE block.

The head is different, which is what I believe Jim is referring to, that has different exhaust ports, etc.

The best way to do what you want to do is buy a SR16VE $1500 shipped and change the internals over. 2001 crankused $250, DE rods used $100 bearings new $100, head gasket new $60 and SR20VE pistons with rings $280 all can be had for about $800 in parts then do the switch. You will have a motor that puts out about 215 crank HP as oposed to a regular SR20VE with 190 crank HP. will all cost about the same price and you end up with 25 more HP.

So you are telling me that an SR16VE is only 1500$ US(Is it the 200HP??). Those it come with the Tranny?? I don't have a SR20DE yet I'm still investigating on that.

Finally a question I can answer! The SR16VE that Andreas is talking about is not the N1 version that puts out 200hp, but rather the "regular" SR16VE that is rated at something like 175hp. Multiply that hp number by the increase in displacement of 25% and you end up with the 215hp number.

Now, the question I'm trying to get answered is: Can you do the same crank, rods, piston swap with the more powerful N1 version? Andreas?

People stop dreaming about N1 motors you will not get your hands on them. But to answer you question yes you can do the same thing to the N1. Not trying to be rude but if you guys would just think you could answer your own questions.

It makes sense that you could do the same crank, rod, piston swap on an N1. I just wanted to be sure so I could keep dreaming. You know, like stroking out an N1 to 2.2 liters to make an ungodly 275hp!

If you multiplied the 200hp of the N1 by the 25% increase in displacement going from a 1.6 to 2.0 liter you'd supposedly net an extra 50hp. That's the optimist inside me talking; the pessimist says that there is probably a law of diminishing returns and the actual number is probably in the 40-45hp range.

If it were possible to stroke it out to 2.2 liters then you're looking at that 275hp number.

Opps, I was thinking of the wrong equation at the time. Sorry for the miscalculation.

my guess would put it at 243hp at the crank. but we'll find out later this year when i try it for sure.
Now I am confused. I thought you already had a sr20ve. What are you going to try latter this year?
