Originally posted by 98sr20de That looks like a great install. What is still left to be done?
Thanks. All that's left is tying up some of the wire harnesses. The car is driveable but I'm anxiously awaiting a new VE specific header from Hotshot or from a company called Fujitsubo in Japan, which ever is available first.
A good wash, wax and salt free roads and I'll be having some fun.
Do you have access to a dyno? It looks like you have a pretty built VE. I mean, CAI, Headers, Exhasut???, (I assume you have a decent one), ECU, flywheel??? . Other then some sr16ve cams is there much left that you can do and stay NA.
I just want to say that that is an EXPERT install, Jim. From seeing your car in the past to even this point you are NOT one that lets anything become ghetto. You do everything COMPLETELY and CORRECTLY. I should really take a lesson

I'm running a CAI, headers, Greddy cat back, UR water pump pulley, JWT ECU programmed for the VE MAF and injectors, Quaife dif and a Fidanza 8 lb. flywheel. The SR16 cams will have to wait till next season and that will be the extent of engine mods.
I don't have access to a dyno in Rochester but if one is available in Carlisle next month I'll consider it.

Thanks. I appreciate the kind words. I spent over a month after the initial swap planning and working out the details. I'm really pleased with the results. I can't take all the credit though. I'm fortunate to have Phoenix Imports at my disposal and the experience of Rany Ames to oversee the whole transformation. Like me, he is very detail oriented and wouldn't allow me to do anything that closely resembles a ghetto install. He is pestering me every night to change that ugly hose going from the VC to the intake ;-)

Don't rule out attending one of our dyno days here in Toronto. They're cheap anyway, you get a good exchange on your money, and it's only 2.5 hours away for you.
We should have another this summer. I made an intake for my dad's '95 240, and I'm curious to see if it helped.
Jim that's some top stuff! I hope you're coming down in May to Shannonville! If so I can't wait to take another 'spin' with ya.
Like James said, you should really think of taking it to our dyno up here in Toronto. With that new motor it shouldn't take you more than an hour to drive up here. :p

You have got to let me know when you find headers. I want them! By the way can you give me Hotshots #?

Given a choice I'd prefer to buy the header from Fujitsubo in Japan. They are full stainless steel and the quality looks to be first rate. The problem is finding someone in Japan who'll make the deal because the company does not sell overseas.
Hotshot is supposedly developing a header but I'm having a hell of a time getting any answers from them. Their number is 626-303-0076. Talk to John Spangeler if you can and let me know what he say's.

It ended up taking them about 4 weeks but I perstered Ben twice a week to make that happen.
BTW, I was able to buy the Fujitsubo header. It's the non polished SS unit that costs 60k yen or approximately $450. It's being shipped from Japan in a couple days via Fed Ex and I hope to have it next week before I leave on vacation for 10 days. A friend of mine has a brother who lives in Japan and he was able to put the deal together for me. If interested I can probably hook you up when I return from Florida.

I am still strongly considering a VE. If I commit with cash could I get in on the header also? What kind of header is it? Tri-Y, 4-1, Stainless I think you said.

I can try to hook up anyone with this header but it'll have to wait till I return from vacation.
Originally posted by 98sr20de Why did you pick this header. Is it know to produce good power, or was it the stainless at a good price. Andreas mentioned to me that he feels the 4 into 1 will make the best power (duh), but these are all 4-2-1 designs (maybe better overall power). How do you know it will fit? If it fits a b13 will it fit a b14. Sorry for all the questions.
I have no idea wether it will make better power than a 4-1 design but the fact that it's a SS unit and costs less than $600 shipped (special shipping prices for me cause I'm sorta in the business) is attractive to me.
It is a 3 piece design and I'm sure the primary and twin tube secondary will bolt up without issues. I'm aware that the 3rd piece will have to be modified or replaced to make it work but that's the price you pay for a swap of this nature.
The only other options I have are using the stock manifold and paying someone to fab up a secondary or using the restrictive Hotshot unit designed for the DE. I don't like either of these options so I'm going with Fujitsubo.
One thing is for certain, the quality of their products appear to be second to none based on the manufacturing processes they outline on their web site. I don't think I'll be disappointed.
