Ok I had to change out my cams to some SR16 cams... bla bla long story short I couldn't pull the cam gears off so I had to take them out one at a time. I started with the intake and zip tied the exhaust then went the exhaust after reinstalling the intake and zip tied that. I thought I had it at BTDC, cam gears were at 10-12 and I had a screw driver in #1 to see when it was at BTDC. I'm sure the cam timming is off. I followed the DE instructions from what I could find.
Thats really problem i made the same on my SR20VE after changing cams. And effect is not good. I missed timing too. So 12 and 10 o'clock is wrong for VE. Could anyone help us
After looking at the manual and going putting it to 0 and reinstalling the cams. The motor wouldn't turn freely when I spun the crank. I did pull up the slack on the chain while I was putting it to zero. With the screw driver in #1 and watching it go all the way up and looking at the crank pully no marks?!?!?!.
Yes, once you see these marks put intake at 10 o'clock and 12 o'clock for the exhaust, or look at the camshaft lobes. For cylinder # 1 the lobes for the intake and exhaust should face away from each other, and for cylinder #4 the lobes should face toward each other.
lol I did that and the crank would spin. It felt like it was hitting a valve. And looking at the screw driver it was no where near it's highest point when I put it to zero. Ohh VE pully btw.
Stop immediately, you are way off. Start all over, remove the chain from the sprockets, remove the camshafts. Do not attempt to force the motor to turn because your valves are touching the pistons. Once the camshafts are removed, move the crankshaft to the above picture and reinstall the camshafts to the 10 and 12 o'clock.
Well holy horse crap. Something for the record books. Ok I tried to follow the instructions on how to do the cam swap on my VE.... well It wouldn't work. I tried and tried to the point I thought I was doing something wrong. Well after talking to Larry Low (big thanks to him and 5speed) he told me not to look at the mark on the crank and use the screw driver trick. Sure enough it fired right up on the 1st try this morning. I'm not sure what up with my crank pulley but I'm going to order a new one from Mossy in a few days.
so you cannot use your crank pulley marks to align your cams it would be off in your case and possibly in some other forum member's engines.
the screwdriver (or dial guage), or the crank keyway, or a one piece crank pully like UR or Mossy are the sure ways to guage the actual crank position.
