VE headgasket info

So I just picked up one of the metal oem VE headgaskets from Greg @ Mossy.
This is a very beautiful headgasket. Better looking quality than a lot of the big name aftermarket gaskets.

Anways... For those of you that have installed these: Do you use an type of spray or tack-up (i.e. permatex red stuff) material on it? It looks as though it has some sort of sealant type material allready formed onto it. I have always used a little bit of black sealant up around the timing chain area just as some extra, but not sure if I really need to use anything at all with this headgasket.

Nothing should be used on your headgasket. It joins two bare metal surfaces and no gasket goo is required.

When you remove your old one, you will see that no glue holds it on.

you have to put silicone around the timing chain on the block befour installing the gasket and on the top of the gasket in the same place. I didn't, and oil leaked all over my alternator when the car was running, and then it sprayed onto the header which caused a lot of smoke. It even says it in the service manual. Permitex melts. I used it one time and the block was all red around the head because when it got hot it was leaking out.

I just blew my headgasket and I had the factory metal one. I'll be switching back to the regular material when I do it this time. If this gasket is at all like the factory one for the 2.5 altima's and sentra's, they have a very high faluire rate.
