Wiring a VE distributor into a B13 harness.

Has anyone done this? Can you point me in the right direction? Yes, I have searched.

I want to make use of the internal coil sexiness.

The internal coil is not as good as a external coil, so many upgrades can be made to the internal coil for stronger spark + more power.

Crane Cams LX91 coil is my choice and works well with the factory wiring.

Well, at least I wasn't first this time - - -. I'm sure you CAN, but Dre has his folks use the DE distributor, which just takes clipping off the bottom tab of the dist mount. I did that, an msd d6+ and the msd 8207 coil is (finally) going in this weekend. Also runs cleaner to pass smog test, I was just reminded.

Find parts for the VE distributor can cost money. I'd much rather visit AutoZone, or the neighborhood Nissan dealer, than having to order stuff. I think a B14 distributor would be better if you want to use an internal coil.

Actually you can get the cap and rotor from Mossy, I think I paid $35 for the two. The problem is finding wires to fit. Greg V has not been able to get any from Nissan yet.

I believe Jim Schumaker or CNibbian used the VE distributor. Chuck's was a B14, so I don't think that will help you. I thought somebody else just did it the hard way also, and posted how to do it?

I'm running a B13 distributor and I'm plenty happy. Plus B13 are cheap if you ever needed one.

I have the VE dist I didnt use, and I think I've got the wires for it to if anyone wants to buy any parts.

Edit: Hear are pictures of the VE dist and wires I have from when I bought the motor http://www.photodump.com/direct/mpg9999/VEtop.jpg. VE motor not included .

Hm. My engine had only 7500 on it. Hafta go check to see if I kept the wires, but if I kept 'em they're yours, Taiden, if you decide to use the ve dist.

I still have my old wires and dizzy.. Thank you for the offer, though.

I would just like to have as much VE in my car as possible. I think it would be interesting be one of the few with a VE dizzy. For now I am definately running DE distributor, but I think I will try to wire up the VE later.

Maybe I'm lost on something, but what is the deal with the VE only wires? They are all the same (DE/VE). I know b/c I have official JDM Yo NGK wires from my VE connected to a B13 distributor. No problems what's so over.

When you put the ve wires on the de distr. are the wires a little longer than normal? Seems to me that I heard the ve dist. requires longer wires, the de's won't work When I got my cap and rotor from GregV he was not sure so he just said he would try to order some. My ve wires are still good right now, but I will need to figure this out at some point. Anyone know for sure?

I have done it but I kept the external coil.

What it LOOKED like (I didn't have the VE dist - Miko pulled it and included an already prepped DE dist, but left the VE wires on it) was that a VE dist would be 180* - #1 would be on top instead of on the bottom. Othewise I would have used the VE wires, but I had to go get a DE set to fit length.

exxd: How did you use a external coil on the VE dizzy? Which dizzy cap did you use? Is there one to suit an external coil or what?
