I am only at 140 miles on the break in period, but I felt the need to get on it ONCE. Since the VVL solenoids are not hooked up, I shifted at about 4500 RPM.
Low end torque in this motor is INSANE compared to my tired DE. I didn't know it was possible to chirp RT-615s shifting at 4500 RPM!!!!! I cannot wait to get the VVL solenoids wired up, holy sh*t!!
That being said, when I go to wire them in, what size fuse should I use and how hard will my summit switch have to work to power TWO solenoids?
congrats on getting her running! I wouldnt worry about a break in period unless you rebuilt the motor. If its used, drop it in and beat the snot out of it

I just Got my sr20ve running this weekend also. Everything is done. My god does this thing haul ass!!! I'll be dyno tuning the SAFC this week to get her working perfect. Mods are:
Clutchnet light weight flywheel and clutch kit
MR 2.5 cat-back
Magnaflow 2.5 in and out cat
Hotshot gen V header (not port matched)
MSD 8969 triger switch set at 4k
JWT pop charger
97 Maxima MAF
E-bay Maxima short ram intake
96 G20 ECU
Apexi S-AFC 1
For the relay switch I bought some $5 relay at Advance Auto and it works like a charm. You can definetfly here and feel the cams kick in at 4.5K.

Awesome man, glad its going good. I ran the solenoids to the battery through a 5 amp fuse. From all my reading said the solenoids only draw a bit over 2 amps. Hasn't popped yet, and I hit VVL nearly every time I drive the car.
The summit switch can do both solenoids, but like they said you need a 4 point relay. The summit boxes alone can't draw enough current to open the solenoids. At least that was my understanding. I run the 8969.

I broke in my motor when i put it in... its used but whens the last time it ran??? best to take it easy for at least a couple hundred miles I would think... Just to be safe 8969 FTW

The break in for me is mostly the clutch. The engine feels GOOD. It feels a little on the rich side. I can hear it pop a little, and it drops down to idle a little harsh. TPS is set to 0.52 at idle, which will be fixed today. Do you all think my exhaust leaks could be causing this? My friend stuck his hand over the exhaust pipe and completely blocked it off and the idle didn't change!!!
Oh and I looked around and it said that the MSD 8969 takes about 1.5 AMPs (manufacturer spec) whereas the Summit Switch takes 2.0 AMPs. Are you guys running the 8969 without a relay or with one?
Seems to be several ways to do it that work. I used a radio shack 4 point relay and a single 8969; Miko said it would make very little difference to switch them separately. Your best switch point will likely vary from mine given you have several setup differences. But try around 46-4800. REMEMBER that the 8969 completes GROUND, not the hot side of the circuit. Torquey little suckers, ain't they? Wait 'til you get the cams hooked up and it spins the tires at about 5200. All by itself.

I don't run a relay with my 8969. Since I don't have a/c anymore, I just used a spade connector and plugged it into the power side where the a/c relay would go. So the curcuit is still fused by the a/c fuse. I've never had any problems.
Hey bro my car is running funny as well fuel wise from what I surmises and from what the local gurus are saying is that a tune is needed on the afc if u have one to fix the fuel mixture. My car was dropping idle so hard at times it would stall out the car... After a little baby street tune and raising the idle it has helped the problem but it needs to hit a dyno or a wideband to be anything near "right"...
^That's pretty clever. I may switch mine to go like that since I've no AC either. Too many fuses hanging off my starter wire.
I don't set the TPS at idle, but rather with the engine off and the key in the on position. Remember to back the throttle stop all the way off when you do (Thanks again Jerry).
My 8969 has no relay. I had one, but ended up returning it. IIRC that stuff I posted about summit boxes was from Steve Foltz's work here. See what he said about it for exact details.
