doubt, with or w/o filter. help.

I've been going to the track lately, and I have a doubt. when I had my DE, when I use to take it to the track, I ran 15.1- 15.0@90mph, but one day I tried to run it without the filter, believing on the theory that like that, it gets moore air, so it will be faster. the results, I ran like .2 or .3 slower. and like 1 to 2 mph less.don't get me wrong, I thought I was going faster because of the noise. and with this said, I'm wondering if this is the case of the VE. last week I ran a 14.5@96 with the regular cold air w/o filter. but my filter was up high underneath the car, so I put an extention yesterday to get air straight from the front of the car, and I put only 94.7mph. maybe, the humidity was high, or was really the effect of the intake set-up.

P.D. must VE's in P.R. are running W/O filter. could this be helping them, or they could run better times with some sort of filter on. thanks

We got no track here in Greece, so no timeslips, but I had some very good results with a stock airbox and no filter in it (street racing). Someone must try it at the track and tell us the results.

why would a person go through all the trouble and expense of a VE swap only to run unfiltered air?? a k&n type filter shouldn't cause a noticeable restriction, and the engine will last much longer, imho!

before you ask that question, ask first, why people take an engine out of a car(most of the time, operational) and swap it for an sr20ve, when with half of that money, they could repair or rebuild the old engine?
answer: because they wanna be quicker. they want a "more fun to drive car". So there is the answer of your question. people wanna squeaze the most power out of their engine and modifications. that's why people do experiments, that's why people risk.

as long as you get a screen filter with a clamp on the end of the pipe you should be fine with out a filter it self.....

and the VE/MAXIMA Maf comes with a screen for extra saftey
