tuning on street with wideband

Needless to say, I got less than stellar impression of the local dyno. First we show up for our 11 o'clock appointment and they proceed to tell us that the mechanic is running late and can we come back in about an hour and a half!! No apologies or anything. So we drive to the park, have a mini meet, and come back. Then they act like they dont see us because the guy is eating lunch. Finally a half hour later we start doing pulls. After we finish they ask "do you have a jump drive? our printer is broken?" I say, "no, you didnt say i needed one". So they tell us to come back in a week or they will email us the charts. They still havent emailed me my charts over a week later.

That being said, I am considering just buying a good wideband and tuning with that on the street. There is no reason why i cant just pull in second or 3rd gear and datalog my runs since i have the calum ECU with consult. Any of you guys done this? Any recomendations on brand? My searches have turned up the AEM, LM1, and Zextronic as the popular ones. I am running a calum ECU so i do have a lot of flexibility with the tuning and i hate to keep paying to go back to the dyno. My air fuel was between 11.8:1 and 12.1 at WOT on the dyno so i know there is a lot of power just in adjusting the fuel maps.

More specifically, i was considering the AEM uego wideband since it has a guage that i can monitor inside the car. And it has a configurable analog output (0-5V) that i can route back to the ECU as the 02 sensor signal. This will allow me to just run the wideband (remove the stock 02) in the stock bung and have both the output to the guage and the ability to run my computer with no problem. any thoughts, suggestions, experience with this? thanks in advance.

Nate, I have Jimmy's AEM UEGO, new/unused. If you want it let me know. You should probably call his number and ask him how much he wants for it (I didn't pay for it, he just gave it to me and put me on a "payment plan" hehe).

I havent dynoed again, just dynoed the one time. 171whp at 7800rpm and 119wtq at around 7300 (i dont exactly remember the tq peak rpm.) I cant post it because those bastards still havent emailed us the charts yet. The timing was off because the crank pulley was loose. My air fuel was also around 12:1 so it was pretty rich. The timing is fixed now and it feels good, although it still smells rich. I just dont feel like paying another $100 to redyno and get a chart right now. and im not ready to retune yet. I'll post in my thread when i get some more results. sorry things didnt work out as planned.

I have the ecu with the consult cable coming out of it. I havent gotten around to the tuning part yet. I will probably use calumsult for starters and then go from there. I just need to wait until the weekend when i have more free time.

See the bottom of the main page in Calums section for a list of freeware you can use.

Nate~ My bro has the UEGO. He loves it. Its got an analog output (light show) and a digital output to read the A/F. Very cool

I would recommend throwing it in a test pipe, and still keeping the stocker. I wouldnt risk an expensive wideband o2 sensor. There are a few people over on freshalloy that from what I remember said it doesnt like the heat right off the head, and should be re-located downstream some. Your still going to get the same reading, just not as hot of an exhaust temp.

sweet, what car is he running it in? My car is a daily driver though, so i am going to run a cat. Good to hear that people like it though. I will do some research on their site about where is a good location. Pretty sure the 02 bung for the fuji is fairly far down. Ill go take a look after lunch. thanks

SR S13. His is pretty much daily driven, except in rain (its got a small leak) and snow (hes up in MI, rust is bad mmmmkay )

If its near the bottom of the header I think you should be ok. My brothers is right in the test pipe after the downpipe on his car. Really its probably about the same length as your fuji or something quite close to it.

I run the Zextronixs wide band on my car with calum ecu. I just plug both the wideband and the Consult into the laptop and open both programs at the same time. Start logging on the Zextronic and when I'm done making the pass I just check the maptrace and look at the A/F vs RPM and TPS.

so are you running 2 O2 sensors or just the wideband? Were you able to gain a lot of HP doing this? The calum tune seems to be pretty rich on my car right now. Im gonna get it close with the fuel pressure regulator but after that i want to really dial it in with the wideband and playing with the fuel maps.

1 o2 sensor. The zextronic has a narrow band output so I just hook that to the stock o2 wire at the ecu and I'm done. I just run that sensor all the time.

I paid like 30 at circuit city. I like it better that the one I bought online. That one was cheaper.
