6 Speed SR20VE?

According to this page:

http://www.nissan.co.jp/PRIMERA/P12/...ISM/index.html

The sr20 is coming with a 6 speed trasmission... I was wondering would we be able to use that tranny for a swap, cause to me it looks like the car is fwd...

I believe you'll find that it is a Continously Varible Automatic Tranmisson. I would shudder to think how much trouble that would be, but try it if your brave.

The new Primera is offered with a 6 speed manual. However, it's a hydraulic clutch so modifications would be needed.

From what I understand about the Silvia's new 6 speed gearbox, it was actually the old 5 speed casing with 6 (smaller) gears shoved inside. Guys were blowing this trans up, so they're swapping the old 5 speeds into newer cars. It just might be the same old case with physically smaller gears crammed inside. It's just a guess...

Mike Kojima recently posted that this transmission is basically the Maxima tranny with a sr20 bolt pattern. Has about 100% the capacity of the stock sr20 tranny. To top it off JWT is making a kit to drop it in our cars. Cost? About $3500. This tranny has a Quaife diff standard.

On that note the Quaife for our cars is not being sent to America any more. Damn!! I called KAAZ and they are going to be releasing an LSD for our cars after this summer.

Steve

Edit: Quaife would remake our diff but the want 20-25 orders to do so.

When you say kit you mean the whole trans or an adaptor to make it fit... also isnt the gear ratio a lot taller for slower acceration or is it abou tthe same?

The tranny already has a sr20 bellhousing bolt pattern. The kit converts it to fit a non hydro-clutch to a hydro clutch. If the tranny is designed for a sr20 then the gearing should be fine.

Thats a lot of money for a "kit"... and the gearing is for a maxima because its a maxima trans... so why would you want that tall ass gearing when you can get a nice ve trans shotpeen and cryo treat it for abot the same cost?

Re-read the previos posts. Its not for a maxima it comes off of an sr20ve. The size is what is compared to a maxima. The gearing is for a VE.

Consider this-the gear set that was going to be made for our cars was going to be in the neihborhood of 3 grand. I don't know if this kit will come with a tranny( for the price i would think so) but for a tranny -axles-mounts and the hydrolic hook ups i would think it would be a steal. At least considering the torque capacity and the extra gear. This is the same tranny that comes in the maxima and jdm primera. The max has a different final in it.
I'll probably get one minus the tranny when the parts come avaible. Or i might just buy a newer g-20 and get a front clip and just do the change over.

Also remeber that the conversion kit will have to change our existing shifter rod set up to a cable shifter. The new six speed trans in the MAxima and the SE-R spec-V are both cable shifted. That's how they were able to fit the extra gear in approx. the same size case.

You got it backwards the newer engines have a hydraulic trans while the older ones, like we got have a cable trans. You have a hydraulic trans if I am not mistaken.

I wasn't talking about the clutch cable. the actual SHIFTER is now controlled by two cables (select and shift) instead of the rod we have now. Even my 2001 still has a rod shifter with an hydraulic clutch.

I got my SR20VE from a 97/98 Primera and it came with a 6-speed tip-tronic gearbox, absolute head f$#k to wire up, wouldn't bother, not that great anyway I have heard!

GUYS! this is awesome news! how many times have you been droning down the freeway wishing you could shift into another gear?

and for us turbo guys, this is a godsend, no more cringing every time you shift into 3rd, no more POS tranny bullsh*t. i dont know about you guys, but this is tranny number 3 for me, and frankly, i am VERY sick of it. i can get my tranny out of the car in 45 minutes, and about 1.25 hours going back in! i am getting too good at this.

when this one blows up (which it will, despite cryo and shotpeen, i just know it) i will get that other tranny.

I got a friend who now imports engines along with some friends. I asked him about this trans mission and he says he'll take to his Japanese contact about it.

I agree with you. I am on my third tranny and I will break it. It is just a matter of time. Nissan F**** up big time when they designed this tranny. I will by the tranny and kit in a heartbeat if it becomes available. I really need it for my race car.

BTW, where did you get your tranny gears shot peened and cryoed?

I read your impressions on the SoCal list. I want to try a phantom grip on my 98 open diff tranny. I would love to take ride in your car.
