My power steering line (banjo hose?) is in such a position that it is physically impossible for me to change the oil filter without disconnecting the hose from the power steering pump.
I cannot put the line back on the power steering by myself, and I dont have anyone to help me so that is not an option.
That and my @&$#@ friend has my oil drain pan for no reason what so ever and he's 45 minutes away.
Do a search, when you do the swap you are supposed to either grind away at the tab on the power steering line, or grind away at the slot that it fits into. This allows it to move enough to give you clearance for the filter.
i do the same as sr20 sleeper. there are more brand "choices" in those models, like the new ones drain-back valve, etc... and they are usually less deep
1) I have never heard of people doing this in all the research I did on the swap. Perhaps I read over it, or it wasn't covered in much detail on this forum.
2) When I go to the dealersh*t I ask them for a "2001 Sentra SE oil filter," that doesn't mean they are giving me the right thing though, they are idiots.
Hey Bud -
The VE in a '93-94 plops JUST so ya can't get the filter off b/c of the ps banjo. My solution was to take my dremel (knockoff from HF) and hog out the banjo fitting locator slot so I could rotate the piece 'round a bit. HOWEVER, when you do this, of course you hafta loosen up that fitting and lose some of your fluid, AND while you're at it you'd better run up to your fln Nissan dealer and order up the washers for the fitting, as if you put it back together with the old ones it WILL leak (learned the hard way). I was lucky and caught the problem as I was doing the install.

If you don't have the patience
to do it right the first time,
how is it you have the time to
do it over and over again?
Theres an even better solution. Remote mount oil filter.

I guess you could remote the filter, but that seems like a WHOLE lot more work at a WHOLE lot more expense, especially given the thing sits in a very easy place and all you have to do is swing the ps banjo over about 5 degrees.
loosen the top of the line where it meet the top of the pass side strut top...3 bolts or so and ur done..this will give u enough room if ur not inclined to work on ur car from under

Boy I sure am glad Phillip replaced that line before I got my SE-R from him. I never touched ps for the swap. I totally glazed over this when reading up.

The dealersh*t gave me a highport filter (longer). I got a roller rocker filter (shorter) from them this time around.
I cut off the little notch on the hose, now she swings. Oil filter in, power steering fluid replaced, all is good.

Thanks for the reply jerry. Question... my washers are made of metal, and I have reused them several times, I do not think they are leaking. Were yours rubber or something?
Proper Nissan filter, btw, is 15208-95F00.
COOL if you got away with the old washers. Mine are same as, some aluminum slightly crushable alloy (we're talking a right fair chunk of torque on that bolt), and the little suckers leaked. If you got it back together and she's tight, if it ain't broke don't fix it :-)

That's the filter I have currently. The old one was definitely for a highport motor. (Scary... could that have hurt my car at all?)
Seriously, dealerships are idiots. They try to help you by pretending you are a complete idiot. What i mean is, I was ordering parts for my NX 2000 (first they had no idea what the NX was, so I told them it was the B13 chassis, they had no idea what i was talking about when i could see "Sentra (B13)" on the screen, I told them it was the same as the sentra) and I asked for a 2001 Sentra SE oil filter, so they give me the B13 oil filter.
