eManage Blue Questions...

I've been trying to get a VE head swap set up for my B15 for a few months now. We've just had some stuff come up that's sucked the money right out of me. (Some of that involved paying off a credit card though. Yay!)

Things should be settling down a bit now, and my wife and mom are wondering what to get me for Christmas/Aniversary/Birthday. (I got married last year on Dec. 27, and my Birthday is Feb 1.) I'm hoping that I can start buying stuff now, (or direct them to buy stuff for me... )

Here's some background really quick though. I'm a computer programmer and I'm not afraid to get down and dirty with my soldering iron. I've modded some XBoxes, created a AUX IN for my Kenwood Deck from scratch, and a couple of other odd jobs. I don't know a lot about EE, but I'm pretty comfortable with computers.

Anyway... my origional plan was to get a JWT programmed ECU and just use that. I've been looking at eManage though and I have some questions for people that already use it.

1. I keep reading that my stock ECU (from a 2000 Sentra SE) will override any tuning changes that I make within a month? Those of you that have these, do you need to get them tuned every month? If so, JWT may be a better solution.

2. On this page the eManage blue appears to be able to control VTEC switch points. Is anybody using this for VVL switch points, or is a seperate computer required for that?

3. If I got the eManage blue first while I save up for the head, would it be any use on my current SR20DE? (I've only got a header and CAI.)

4. Is a wideband or dyno needed to do any tuning at all, or could I fine tune some things fairly well with just the sensors in the car already? (Just so you know already, I plan on tuning with a dyno once I get the head, and possibly just buying a wideband anyway. I'm just wondering if there are features I can use in the meantime without the dyno or wideband.)

I've tried searching a little in the VVL forum, but it looks like it just got cleaned out. The articles that came up helped answer some of my questions, but these came out unanswered.

Thanks in advance.

1. I have had trouble with my tune changing with my blue emanage in my b14.

2. You COULD set up the emanage to control your VVL points, but I dont know if it has been done. Normally people wire in RPM window switches.

3. You probably wouldnt get too much performance from the emanage, but you would probably learn a lot about your car using the emanage.

4. You need a LEAST a wideband to do any tuning, A dyno is necessary to tune for more power.

Thanks for the response. Is there any advantage to using a seperate switching mechanizm vs. the eManage one?

In response to #1, what do you do when it looses tune? Just retune it, or have you come up with a permanant solution?

The advantage of using a seperete switch is to set your own desire RPM to let VVL kicks in and also you will have a smoother power band.
For your first problem you have I had the same ECU will fight against E-manage but my man who did the set up he did otherway around rather than normal setting( he play around with A/F ratio)

Do you know what he did, or is he available to ask? eManage in my mind sounds almost like a better solution, simply because its initially cheaper than JWT and allows me to tune it specifically for my car. This all changes though if I have to hit a dyno or something once a month to keep it tuned.

I thought the point of the VTEC feature in eManage was to allow you to adjust the VVL switch points? I guess what you're saying is with a seperate computer, I could switch each cam independantly, instead of just one switch point for both cams. (Cause that's the difference between VTEC and VVL). Got it.
