Spark Plug Gap - Useful Information from an Expert
Here's an email from NGK
Hello again Paul,
Nice website. Very nice car. I was able to find some information on the plugs for the SR20VE. The original equipment stock plugs for this engine are BKR6E-N which is a .036” or 0.9mm gap setting preset from the factory. I would imagine that is what the stock gap for the engine is as well. Iridium IX BKR6EIX plugs will come new out of the box preset to .032” or 0.8mm. You may not want to gap any larger than .036” for maximum efficiency.

Good info man. I am running the BKR6EIX. I was told not to gap it anymore because it is a preset gap. Oh well.

I put the iridums in a theres a noticeable improvement..thats in a sr16ve but it reduced the backfireing and smooted out response at low revs..
some people have said the standard nissan plugs are better but i just dont agree i have ran both sets twice now and i know which works better
I'm still running the original factory NGKs in mine, now at about 12,000m on the engine (Dre found one with 7500 on it) - I opened them up to .045 as I remember per the suggestions from MSD when I did the Digital6+ and 8207 coil. It's happy as a clam.

If you don't have the patience
to do it right the first time,
how is it you have the time to
do it over and over again?
the more expensive plugs are not exactly better... i dont think you guys are getting better result because of the type of plugs, but because you are replacing them...
copper is the best conductor out there in terms of spark plugs.. however they do need to be replaced more often which is why ppl see an increase in performance when changed. Get coppers and just swap em out when you change your oil... the cost will be about the same.. an added benfit of doing this is that you will be able to see your plugs and check for how the engine is running

hmm well im used to turbo and you should change them that often... all motor you could prob get away with it
Turbos eat copper plugs The stock wrx plugs at bkr6e's and need to be changed like every 8-10k miles. And that is NOT a car you want to frequently change spark plugs in.

good thing this isnt a wrx board and we have sr20's
