couple of 16ve and 20ve questions

Sorry if this has already been covered, I have searched

Does the SR16VE tranny bolt up to the SR20DE tranny or SR20VE tranny?

Also can the SR18DE use a VVL head swap from a 16VE or 20VE? and can it bolt up to a SR20DE tranny or any other tranny?

Thanks

The trannies interchange, as the SR16VE is identical to the SR20VE but for the crank, pistons, and rods.

As for the SR18 being interchangeable, if it runs an 86mm bore (like the SR16 and SR20) then it should be as interchangeable as any other first gen FWD SR block, meaning "kinda" with work.

Awesome thanks for the quick reply man! JGY says the SR18DE has a factory 82 MM bore:

http://www.jgycustoms.com/motors.htm

What does that mean exactly??

Also not sure if this has been covered either but I have seen bluebird / pulsar gti-r engine+tranny for sale at a couple different sites now offering a FWD or AWD tranny??

Are they starting to include FWD SR20DE trannies or is this some other FWD tranny that is useless to us sentra/G20 folks?

Thanks,

Chris

The SR16VE or SR20VE head will not work on the SR18 block. Get a 86mm bore block or a full VE motor...

Most likely the DET FWD tranny being offered is from the early U12 Bluebird

Is the FWD bluebird tranny useable in the sentra?

Thanks,

Chris

The FWD U12 tranny can be used but need a cable clutch, different flywheel and driveshafts, it is a hassle to do.

I would avoid using the SR18 block, as finding a full Sr20VE motor would be a lot cheaper than having an Sr18 bored to suit

Is it tougher than our american SE-R tranny though?

Yes, slightly tougher but it is a hassle getting everything to fit. Custom engine mounts, modified driveshafts, GTiR spec flywheel, hydraulic clutch conversion, etc
