Similarities

I was wondering for those who have had the opportunity to take apart an SR20VE know if the timing chain, seals, valve seals and stuff like this would be compatible to the SR20DE? Also what about the rod bearings and main bearings? The reason I ask is because i'm seriously considering buying a VE and the first things I would like to change would be the timing chain, tensors, front and rear crank seal, rod bearings and main bearings. Any input would be appreciated.

Most VE are pretty low milage because they have not been around that long. I wouldn't bother changing stuff unless you really needed to.

This is true, BUT, what about when we do have to do these things? I like to think in future terms as well as I cannot have this car sitting for 2-3 months waiting on parts as it would be a daily driver and it's the only car that I have.

I am in the same position. My thoughts were that the engine will last well over 100k. By that time it will be confirmed 100% about what parts are unique to the VE. From everything I have heard so far only the head has a lot of specific VE parts. The bottom end is fairly generic as far a pistons/rods/crank/bearings and stuff. That doesn't mean you can throw just any crank on, but the parts are all found on domestic nissan sr20de's in some fashion or another. By the time I need a rebuild I will do some headwork and other things that have been tested and proven by others.
