VVL activation...

what methods do all of you hybrid VVL'ers out there use for the vvl activation??? would a just a jwt ecu programmed for vvl work??? ive noticed some of you use msd pills, and maybee some other things. is there a type of v-afc that could work(not a'pexi)???

Bigtom stated in another thread
Quote:
razo has a two stage shift light that i have used before and it works fairly well. but has to be wired throught relays because it does not drive enough current to actuate the solenoids. it doesn't seem to have an incremental limt such ...like every 100rpm. seems to be completely variable
I have looked briefly for this item on the internet and have not found it. The MSD switch is proven to work well. I just like the Razo's non-incremental part for testing purposes.

I found out which pins that control the solenoids! I will find the numbers for you!

When they design one for the New Integra(RSX) which i-Vtec is more similar to VVL than regular Vtec, then maybe you could use that controller. Last I check the Honda boards they didnt have anything out for that yet, and I got the feeling it wouldnt be out for a while if at all.

But for now the MSD pills are the best... you can vary the activation in 100 RPM increments.

I heard that a JWT ECU for the VE has a single wire that controls both solenoids. Is this true?

Yes. JWT only has a single stage VVL trigger and you cannot alter the rpm point. Get MSD boxes and you can indepedently trigger the solenoids and at any rpm you choose.

Hondata rocks!! I wish JWT would be open-source like Hondata so all Nissan enthusiasts could benefit.

You would need two of the rpm activated switches. Then you can choose between the pills that you plug into the switch or you can use the rpm module selector which would plug into the same place as pills on the switch.

Pills are probably the best way to go. The rpm selector only helps while you are tuning the car and trying to determine the best rpm crossover point for the cams.

I have both.

i am working on a digital rpm activator that does both solenoids independently with 100 rpm settings, but it wont really be ready for a few months though.

weeeeeeeeeeeeee bigtom...........

How far are you from having finished your project!? I'm on the edge of buying an MSD set up, but if you are soon to be finished (read. 2-3 month) then I would love to be the first to wire you some money and receive the first system!

No seriously I'm VERY interested!

Please let me know!

If you choose to go the MSD route, go to summitracing.com and buy the following:

(2) MSD-8950 rpm activated switch $59.95 each
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=2457

AND

(2) MSD-8671 4600-6800 rpm selector if you want the dial pot $45.69 each
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=629

-OR-

(2) MSD-87441 4100-4900 rpm modules $21.39
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=31285

-AND/OR-

(2) MSD-87451 5100-5900 rpm modules $21.69
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=24747

You can use either the rpm selector or the rpm modules to activate the switch.

Thanx x1000

Monkey learning........

What to do with the rpm modules under 5000rpm!?!? - If you look at Steves Dyno numbers both cams have to activate after 5000 to prevent power loss!?

If I buy the:

(2) MSD-8950 rpm activated switch $59.95 each
and
(2) MSD-8671 4600-6800 rpm selector if you want the dial pot $45.69 each

Then I don't need the rpm modules right!?!?!?

chuck. you said buy the 4100-4900 and 5100-5900 b/c the best intake and exhaust cam switchover points will happen between those intervals-right? intake is the 4100-4900 i beleive. what if the best rpm switchover is between the 200 rpm increments, say 4400 rpm and 5400 rpm for example.....

and no, you dont need the module if you have the pills-they both will do the same thing they're just different versions.

According to Steves dyno numbers both intake and exhaust cam has to trigger after 5000 so you will probably only need the module set between 5100-5900 or the rpm pills

There currently is no solution if you need a crossover point in between the 200 rpm increments. This is why bigtom is working on a digital solution with better resolution.

Just buy the MSD pills instead of the Variable one. They come in 100 rpm increments.

RPM Series Kit Part No.

4,000, 4200, 4400, etc = 8744
4,100, 4300, 4500, etc = 87441
5,000, 5200, 5400, etc = 8745
5,100, 5300, 5500, etc = 87451
6,000, 6200, 6400, etc = 8746
6,100, 6300, 6500, etc = 87461
