I am really close to buying a VE from an importer in LA. I have a few questions before I plunk down the bills...
1) Can I use a standard sr20de aftermarket lightened flywheel? What is the weight of the stock ve flywheel? I don't want to end up with a heavier one.
2) Since I intend to race this car in amateur events, i would like to pass it off as an sr20de. The rules, as stated, allow me to use it, but I don't want to get too many questions. Can I use the standard DE valve cover, or does it need some extra oil lines? If I can get it through tech at one or two events a year, I would be happy.
3) What is the deal with the CVT tranny? I don't want to install it on my rally car, but it would be pretty cool to use somewhere. Would a b-13 need to have the floorpan physically modified? I know the computer would be a pain.
Are these trannies robust at all? They seem like a good way to keep the car at peak power. Any info would help, even: "It looks like it would fit" or, "dude, don't waist your time"
If you want to use a cvt tranny, my thoughts are that you would need the entire front clip off of a car. This would have the ecu+engine+wiring harness. Basically, just switch everything from one car to the next. My guess is that it would all fit but would require some help in some areas. Nissan is great for making things work from one model to the next. Andreas just happens to have a front clip right now from what I have heard. I would not try this with just the engine and tranny and ecu. I would want the entire setup to make life easier.
Well, the engine I am looking at has the Tranny, ECU, harness and engine, but it is not the whole front clip.
I fail to understand why it would be such a problem to use the CVT (although I believe you). Are there other weird connectors going to it? Maybe I am a technology whore, but I really think it would be cool to have a CVT in my car.

Having the entire front clip would answer that question. Don't forget the gear selector, and all the hardware needed to make that work. Don't for a minute think that this would be easy. IMHO, perseverance would make it work. Is it worth it. Probably not.

You cannot use a DE VC due to different baffling etc. However, a standard DE VC gasket does fit.
Don't waste your time with the auto tranny.
didn't you mention that it was the same valve cover as the newer SR20DE motors?(2000+)
