sr20de turbo on sr20ve???

i currently have a sr20de turbocharged... i was wondering if i can take that off and bolt it onto the sr20ve so i can have the "variable valve timing..."

Don't waste your time I would say. Money better spent on upgrading your turbo setup, or making a better bottom end on your DE.

Problems:

Mismatched exhaust ports
High Compression
High Price
Less than optimal cams
etc.

i wouldnt

I pretty much agree with Lyn, for the money you would spend on a VE and all the headaches of making it work, you could make that de motor strong enough to handle insane amounts of power. THe DET has been proven to make more horsepower than you could ever put to the ground anyway, so i dont see much to gain from a VET other than the novelty of it. Im not an expert though, thats just my opinion.

turbo on a ve doesnt work too good up top because of the massive overlarp in the cams. boost just blows right out of the cylinder. carl has info on this in sure.

You can dial that out to a degree with cam gears.

cam gears, BE CAREFUL!!

id be careful before deciding to use cam gears on an sr20ve. how would an engine run with -5 degrees of overlap on the low profile? (commom degreeing for sr20det is in. -2.5 and ex. +2.5...hence the 5 deg example) seems it may cause some sort of fibrillation or something. the exhaust valves would close before tdc and the intake valves would open after tdc. creating an apearent dead time where power is not created. kinetic energy would be used only to move the crank through this dead zone. i will see what i can find out about how an engine would react to such a condition. for the large profile reducing overlap is a great idea, but dont forget about the small one.
