!!!UPDATE!!!: Low buck 4-1 VE header

So, some of you may have seen my old post about trying to get a low buck VE specific 4-1 header made. you can see that post here: http://www.sr20forum.com/sr20ve-sr16...nterested.html

I asked for some dimensions and measurements from you guys of the 4-1 header that would suit the VE. I took Andreas Miko's specs and went back to S&S with them. the specs are:

-1.75 inch primaries
-30 inch long
-2.5 inch collector
-Transition at collector from 2.5 to 3 inch to the cat
-Transition pipe will have stainless braided flex pipe
-O2 sensor bung will be relocated to collector
-Emission crap deleted

So lets talk price. i had doubters i could have the header made for under $350 bucks but, they were almost right. The header IF made will cost $337.30 and will cost $442.30 with full ceramic coating inside and outside the header. IF the header is made it would take 4-6 weeks for 20 of them to be made.

There is only one last decision to be made and i would like the input of those who would be interested in purchasing this header. I give will let you guys decide because i know some of you wouldnt mint taking off the cross member to install this header from underneath the car but some of you would. The header can either be a:

- 1 piece header which then a 2.5-3" transition pipe is bolted to it
OR
- 2 piece header that slips together in the middle of the primaries

so VOTE OR DIE!!!

now here is the kicker. I would have to have 20 people to commit to buying this header for it to go in to production. S&S will not make the header if 20 people do not commit to buying one. so its up to you VE guys if you want another header option or not. I dont have a VE myself but i know i would be down for one if i did go VE.

1 piece is the way to go. It is worth the extra 30 minutes of install time to avoid possible leaks and other issues in the future.

i wanted that as well, but we all know there are always those who dont want to spend those extra 30 min installing it.

as far as payment for these puppies go, what would probably happen would be like "half now and half when its shipped to you".

I know that it's not one of the options, but how about a two piece slip on at the collector. This makes it more adjustable since the collector is the most important part of a 4-1. You can alway change the collector out to a 2 1/4,2.5,2.7, or 3 inch. Just something to throw out there. In the end, I go with what the majority vote for.

EXCELLENT idea.
Gives scope for change, and should satisfy those who don't like the idea of the slip-joints.
If this was done I'd put my hand up as well; with the ceramic coated option!

Thats it, you will need to send a VE Ex manifodl gasket so they get the ports right and specify this gasket is indeed diffrent from the DE.
miko himself post this on the 1st thread of this 4-1 headers..

I will want this if I have the money. I am guessing it's not equal length since it's going to be low buck right?

Cheaper? im not setting the price, S&S is. its one option only, they are not willing to make more options to a header that they arent even sure they will sell yet.

Guys, just get it one piece. A two piece slip fit is asking for trouble unless it is made of high quality stainless.

those are the positive responses i was hoping to hear . im going to call S&S on monday and talk to them to get you guys a little more info and i can tell you guys with certainty if its mandrel bent or not. i might convince them to make less of these headers if not enough interest is shown but of course that would result in a higher price.
