It on 2.0VE engine

i have a feeling i need to higher final drive since i feel i missing the quickness
since normall the car we race is using 4.7 or 4.9 final drive

car is mostly for track use and car park rally purpose

oh yea
forget to ask as well
what is your suggested rev limit for N1 cam with your S/R ?

Thank you

k20 has 4.7

if you use 4.7-4.9 - you will have to use larger weels diameter.
larger final ratio is good but only for the drag. No daily driving.
I think that the best thing to do is to use closer ratio gearbox. The 3rd on VZ-R gearbox is so sloooow. For many times I have raced I could easily make a gap on 1rd and 2nd, and on the 3rd hondas and celicas began to come closer.

And also with the higher final drive the mileage on the fifth will be bad. I think that it would be better to use p11sport gearbox insted of vz-r gearbox for the pure racing.

Am I correct in my math in calculating a top speed of 120mph at 7800rpm with 195/50R15 tires with a final drive ratio of 4.4:1? Wow, my speedo reads 134mph at the top of 4th with my stock NX2K tranny! I was considering getting an SR16VE tranny for my car for the track, but if this is the case I would get demolished on the straight.

Don't go for a shorter final, it's crazy!

You redline at 134 in fourth? You do still have fifth. Even the sr16 tranny has fifth. It seems it would be better suited of road courses than the stock tranny.

The SR16VE tranny is a close-ratio, so 5th is the final gear with 1:1 (and 4.4:1 final ratio). Can anyone verify that 7800rpm in 5th gear on a SR16VE tranny is 120mph (194km/h)?

20VE produces a lot more torque, so the 4.7 or 4.9:1 ratio is too low unless you want constant wheelspin at the slightest press of the throttle. 4.9:1 has a much bigger wheel torque multiplication and is not necessary. Depending on your engines torque output spread, you should consider a better gear ratio spread.

As Sr20Turbofreak suggested, the 6 speed box is the way to go. It will keep you on the hi lobes during the 3rd/4th/5th/6th gear changes, where the engine is making more hi rpm torque.

i thought the b15 shared the same gears as the sr16... and i ran the b15 for quit a while. the gears are shorter but not by that much. maybe a few mph in each gear. i would still hit around 115mph at 7500rpm 4th gear (where as the stock de tranny would net around 120mph). and 5th would take me well beyond 120

Vzr gearboxes aren`t that closely ratio`d. I have a N1 gearbox on a UKDM RR Sr20 with 205/40/16" wheels and get a true 138mph @6900rpm in 5th.

138mph@6900rpm = 60mph@3150rpm

The gears themselves are quite a tight cluster, so when you change at say 8000rpm, it only drops a few hundred rpm.
