20V question

Is it true that only 400 were ever made? In that case they woukld be more rare than N1 motors.

I am going to guess and say that more than 400 were made. I think the number was more like 2000. It was one year iirc in the P12 (2002?).

No way, I recall that they were selling around 500 a month in Japan in the P12 20V. I will ask around and try to find year end sales numbers.

I cannot verify what I recall as I cannot find sales data that far back.

[Edit: The 20V was Japanese only and sold from 2001 to 2002, the data that I can find only goes back to 2003. The code for the 20V is GH-HP12 - that might help. I will call around and see if anyone has the older fact sheets...]

I called my friend over at the sales and marketing at Nissan Japan and he did not know but will look into it.

However, he also told me that the number has to be more that 400 as the 20V also came in the P12 wagon (GH-WHP12) which he recalls sold well during the same time period.

No clue. Sorry...

I will try to get month by month sales data, nevertheless.

according to wikipedia the production of the 20v was stopped in the UK due to falling sales, hence why it's so difficult to find

some good news however nissan plans to produce a successor in 2008(maybe with a SR20VE 20V in it )

The 20V was Japanese only. I believe that in the wiki article they are talking about the QR20DE for the P12. The article is not [very] transparent as it is a mix of [JDM and UKDM information].

So far I know of 5 20 V motors sold in the USA

and

6 SR20VET motors sold to people on the forum

I thinkl the problem is that the car is new and they only made them for one year so they are only showing up as crashed units.

GTIR motors were made from 91-94 and it took almost until 97 or so before they started floating around the place. As JWT bought the first one I had seen from me.

I feel in a few more years they will start coming out of the wood work from cars with higher milage.

I wouldn't trust any Wikipedia articles 100%, as they can be written by anyone that have access to the internet.

Sounds pretty reasonable assumption. I havn't heard of any popping up at wreckers around the country here. Have seen a few 20V Primera's though and with the driving skill of some of the people in this country, I don't think it'll be long before we see more of them floating around, lol.

The 20V is an all around better motor than the standard SR20VE but the regular SR20VE with that 4 CWC which is about 8 pounds lighter realy revs up fast.

I have a love hate feelings about the 4 CWC

I am going to make a few mods to my 20V when I pull it out of my car.

I will knife edge the crank and lighten the crank by about 8 pounds and get it down to 4CWC weight

Put in SR16VE pistons with valve notches milled down 1mm and the dome milled down 1mm. I will also take a little out of the cumbustion chamber to come u with 12 to 1 compression.

Some JWT drop in cams

and I think 230 WHP should be attainable.

I hope so, I was unsuccessful in locating a 20V header the other day so called Nissan out of interest... Over $2,100NZ ($1,550USD) to get a new one here.

Thats crazy. Try and get the SR20turbofreak header with the 2.25 collector. This header truely makes alot of HP as seen by Mike Ks dyno work.

I think the price is about $1200 and it is alot lighter than the 20V header.

i've also seen a few wagons driving around, and in car yards etc with the 20v and 6 speed, but have never seen an engine for sale by itself.

What are the main differences from the earlier 20ve? apart from the headers....

I knife edged an 8 CW crank and it went from 38 to 37 lbs . It is a road racing motor so I didnt go crazy with really carving up the CW's.
