Well, I got tired of my belts being off centered because I'm running my de UR pullies. So I took my old lowport spacer and installed it. I got all the belts on and cranked the motor over and it didnt want to crank, the starter had a hard time turning the motor over. So I loosened the crank pulley bolt and cranked it over again, this time it turned over and started but it had a little vibration so I turned it off.
I took the pulley back off and looked at the inside of it thinking that it was rubbing the block or something. There were two marks where the pulley was touching the oil pump. I looked inside and saw that the spacer was about 1-2mm farther in than the pump, wtf I am at a loss as to what the fu*k is wrong.
I just put the ve spacer back in and the pulley back on and started the car, smooth as butter now..........

so do you have to use a ve spacer with the ve oilpump...makes sence i guess. i thought u could only use the de spacer on the de crank with the ve oil pump. at least thats what im doing.
well i just viewd this and i am an authority on this subject.[
i think you get no replies because the answers might have been found searching, and a lot of people on here are lame like that.
the answers.........
crank has nothing to do with it. any spacer will fit on any crank. any pump will fit on any block.
oil pump specific. you can only use the DE spacer(oil pump drive) with a DE pump. if you are using a VE oil pump you need to use the VE spacer and the VE crank pulley as well as the VE pickup tube.
this is why gregV sells it as a kit, but i wouldnt reccomend the aluminum VE spacer he has. my personal opinion.
I am using a DE spacer with a DE crank in my VE. With a DE pulley. No problems. If you are using a DE crank pulley with a de spacer you should be fine.
Like I said, my setup is: DE crank, VE oil pump, DE spacer, DE pulley.

Coheed. I made sure you got the VE spacer back on your DE crank when i gave it to you. unless you swapped it again you had the VE spacer on there. using the DE spacer on the VE pump will cause oil pump failure eventualy.
Since you had a late model i believe you may have used the DE pulley without problems.

I swear to God if you're using the VE pump and DE spacer... Your motor is going to end up like mine did in Austin, Texas at the Convention... It will run for a while and then give up the ghost unexpectedly. If I were you, I would check to make sure the VE spacer is on there... Better safe than sorry...

You kind of answered your own question here. The VE spacer is lwider than the DE spacer. If you use the DE spacer with a VE pump, the pulley will bottom out on the oil pump (really bad). When you use the VE spacer, the pulley bottoms out on the spacer and the pulley does not touch the oil pump. Erich's experience is a good enough reason to use the correct spacer with the correct oil pump!

I know, I just could have sworn that I read about a few people just running the de spacer and de pulley on their ve. My mind is playing tricks on me.......
