question about afc neo

can it switch the lobes without a ve ecu, or do u need the ve ecu for that function to work

The camswitch function is only for hondas on the afc. It hacks the honda ecu to obtain this since the honda ecu already has the ability to switch cam profiles. It will not work for any other car except hondas

it seems as if the neo needs the input signal from a vtec or vvl ecu to get the function to work

I am using an AFC Neo on my SR20VE for fuel management, and I've tested the VTEC controller output with a multi-meter while I was at it on Sunday. I can tell you it works just fine, even with the input fully disconnected. The output would go up to around 12V at the set RPM like clockwork. I can hear the solenoids getting activated with that setup no problem, and the function is accessible in the menu even with the input disconnected.

So, basically, you wire up the VTEC output (pink) wire to one wire of the solenoid, and the other solenoid wire to a 12V source. I jumped the signal to both solenoids, as the AFC Neo only has one ouput. You keep the VTEC signal input unconnected. I believe the AFC Neo uses it only to correct the fuel maps if you set your solenoids to fire up at a higher RPM than stock on a VVL/VTEC ECU. With it unconnected, it just thinks that the "stock ECU" never fires up the solenoids, which is no big deal.

It's a great option, IMO, since you get both fuel management and RPM switch functionality in just one unit.

it's fine, if you don't care about having to switch both cams together.

by switching separately (intake 1st) you'll able to increase "area under the curve" and smooth power delivery.
every setup is different but.....my car on stock cam's liked 4600 in/4800 ex. with the n1 cam's and the lobes tightened up +4/-4, 5500 in/6000 ex is perfect.
tune it on a dyno and you'll see

Can you wire the Pink Vtec activation cable on the AFC NEO directly to both solenoids or do you need to use a relay to protect the NEO? If you know what I mean

I believe you can wire it in directly, however add in a couple of relays would add a layer of protection to the AFC Neo unit...
