Difference between SR20DET and SR20VET?

Probably an old question, but a friend of mine wants to do a 240sx to Silvia conversion and wants to know the difference.... cause I don't know. And which would be better and for what reasons?
Thanks.

Its not complicated. He wants to do a sylvia conversion, get an SR20DET.

No sylvia ever had a VE engine. And besides teh SR20VET is only in one vehicle and I think its the X-Trail, but not sure.

Not to be a jerk but why isn't he asking? It's his car and his project.

Cause he isn't registered and we did this at work... but I don't see how this is related to the subject.

I am just tired of people NOT using the search button. Your post even stated that "probably an old question". On top of that its not even for you but another non-forum member. It's not hard to register, it's even easier to search. I found nice pics of a VE in a 240sx with a quick search.

Sure, I could have done a search, but Im a morron I guess. My buddy wasn't wanting to put a SR20VE in a 240, he just wanted to know what would be better before he did the conversion. I have told him he could register and ask himself, but like I said, we did this at work in a hurry. And besides, what does it matter if he isn't a registered member or not? Why can't anyone just answer the question I originally asked instead of making a big deal out this?

Thanks for the help...

I would also suggest the SR20DET. The SR20VET would be nearly impossible to find and even if you found one it would cost an arm and a leg.

You are only looking at a difference of about 50hp between the two motors in stock trim which is really moot anyways if your buddy is going to upgrade the turbo or other parts.

One motor isn't necessarily better than the other - it's more just a matter of cost and availability. I don't know of anyone in the U.S. who has a true VET (not VE converted to turbo) so your buddy would be breaking new ground but would also have less support with an unfamiliar motor.

Well he never made it clear if he wanted the VE or not, but since there isn't much of a difference in HP, Im sure he won't care. SR20DET is plenty as is. Thanks for helping.

are the sr20vet motors mounted the right direction for a 240sx motor transplant? i thought they were mounted like the gti-r or BB motors?

it would be a sick conversion, you are looking at a bit more stock HP, but the swap would cost you more money, the engine would cost more money, and it would all be custom, as far as anyone here knows (cept maybe bigtom from his trip to japan) we haven't seen a sr20vet in a 240sx....doesn't mean it hasn't been done but getting help on the swap might prove a little hard.

Does anyone know what the the VET puts out stock. And what that's compared to a stock DET. I think a stock DET puts out something like 215-220ish area correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Not sure about availablity of SR20VET must be very hard to get...plus it would cost a lot of money to purchase, I would go with the RB25DET, maybe even the RB26DETT modified a little if I wanted to sped mony may even be easier. Or the S15 SR20DET which only has 16 less HP with 250RWHP i believe 300HP at the crank, and it has some sort of vvl system all though there is no real support for it.

Seeing as the S15 has finished production and the factory is being used to make the 350Z, and there is no plans i am aware of to make a S16 it looks like upgrading a S15 from a SR20DET to a SR20VET will be almost impossible...

however if anyone has done it... let me know... otherwise ill keep saving for a R34 GTR drivetrain and motor.
