Ve Install Day 2.5

Ok it’s really been more then 2 days. It took me a while to hook up all the sensors and things. I took my time and used as many of the factory tie off places for the wiring harness. None of the wiring harness clips matched with the VE engine so I just zip tied them all the right spots. Looks great and should be very safe (no wire hanging loose). Well here is the main thing.

IT STARTED ON THE FIRST TURN ON THE KEY. IT JUST PURRS.

Nearly brought tears to my eyes. It was so basic as far as the connections go. I did need to use the DE fuel injector sub-harness and also switched over the de temp, sending unit. Other then that it was plug and play. I used the DE distributor. Yep, you heard me right. Had to trim some off but it worked fine. The header bolted right up smooth as can be. The O2 sensor had plenty of room to reach (after re-running the wire out of the original harnes, no cutting needed). I still need to weld up the bracket for the throttle cable (to long, needs to go back some). And I need to hook up the MSD Ignition with the MSD RPM switches and all. I am also missing the driver side axle (store gave me the wrong size for my LSD swap. I will take more pictures after everything is connected and show everyone what had to be changed to get it to work right. It was all just grunt work and taking your time to pay attention to details. Thanks to Andreas for the over the phone advice and Internet help. Thanks a lot. Also, Thanks to Bigtom and SR20Development for being so helpful also (sending parts and advice). I had two of the best people watching my back. Plus, Chuck and Jim both gave me their numbers if I needed more help (sorry if you didn't want people to know). It made me feel so much better. Back to work. I promise pictures to come.

P.S. Anybody notice my name changed about a week ago. 98sr20de=98sr20ve. First it was prophetic now it is reality.

Nissan uses zip ties with a male connector on the end. The zip tie holds a group of wires together and the male connector attaches to a point of the engine. Usually a bracket or something. None of the mounting points on the VE line up with the old mounting points of the DE. I just used a zip tie to attach them to any good point on the VE. Take a look to the left of your battery. You will see lots of black zip ties attaching to the frame or the engine in that area.

OK, i thought you meant the connectors themselves did not plug in, so you just did them up anyways
I understand now, thanks.
Please give us your impressions after you drive this thing!!!

Everything is basically done But I am missing a drivers side axle for the 97 tranny I installed with the VE. My local shops keep giving me the wrong axle. I have one that is brand new coming on monday for the install that night. I soldiered all the wires and made everything real neat. I have been catching up on work, but plan to post lots of pictures of the install this weekend when I have time. I should hit the road for the first time monday evening.

The SR16VE costs $1,600. As far as measurements go just find a SR20DE and you got the size. The weight on the motor is about 360 pounds on a pallet.

Thanks Andreas Miko.

Hi, im way to new, and I don't know jack about vvl except i'd really like. I like in Central Florida, could I feign shipping on the sr16ve? If so, how much would it be? I know positively I cannot get one this shipment or too soon. I have WAY to much research I need to complete. Plus at my age fesiability is an enourmous issue.

Well thanks! Glad to be posting on the SR boards. Hope to not stray off topic.

Re: how much do the sr20ve cost????

It's not hard to find the price. Just call up some importers and ask them. Soko Ect. a ball park would be 1k depending if they get them in and even if they do somone might want to buy 4 or 6 at a time so they prob won't even sell them to you. I guess u got to hound them till they are blue in the face.
