Lowest VVL compression

I dont know if this has been asked before or not but I couldnt find it when I was searching.

I am looking into VE+T but I am wondering what is the lowest compression I can run to still have the VVL engage? I am only looking at running 8-10psi of boost but want a motor that'll handle the abuse I put on it. I know DET's are 8.5:1 and VVL's are 10:1? I think but am not sure. Would 9:1 compression be okay or should I go with 9.5:1?
Thanks

if your going to run 10psi just boost a stock ve. also the comp has nothing at all to do with the functionality of the vvl.

I was thinking of just boosting the stock VE but I have an extra block and wanted to do a bit of a project and wanted to know the reliability of a boosted VE and what compression I would want to run.

As for compression I thought that had a lot to do with how well the VVL worked or even if it would work.

Get some custom JE pistons from Greg V if you wanna lower it to 8.5:1. Then you can do 20psi. on pump gas. Do it once and do it right. Look at hondas, they take boost really well. But if you only want 10psi it will get old fast and you will need to upgrade to go with a higher boost.

so 8.5:1 compression would still allow the VVL to function properly?

Do you even know how VVL works?

Look into the tech library and see how the VVL works. Get a good idea of everything and then you can see that the compression ratio doesn't affect the VVL. Especially if you are turbo, you want a low compression ratio.

Just be sure of the tune and you can do a lot of boost.

^^ Agreed.

The Greg V/JE pistons setup for a 8.5:1 compression DE motor will yield roughly 9:1 compression in a VE+T which will run fine. The valves have plenty of lift so running more compression is fine. The stock VET also runs this same compression ratio...

I have a custom set of JE pistons coming. 8.5:1 in a VE. Not DE/T. If these pistons were used in a DET the compression ratio would be like 7.7:1

the stock Ve has 10.3:1 compression. So after the block and head are resurfaced you will be looking at 9.3:1 or 9.4:1 in the VE with the DE 8.5:1 pistons

stock compression and 10 psi w/ proper fuel should suffice.

Can you PM me your piston rod combo as I am going this route. What sort of prices are we looking at?
