vvl headgasket question

well i pm'd a few people and got no response to my question, so i figured i'd post up and see if anyone could chime in.

i want the best of both worlds with the motor i want to build, vvl head w/det bottom end.

i was thinking if i could use the stock de bottom end, but i plan on running a t3/t4 so lower compression the better i guess. my question is to setup the vvl head (i read luis headswap multiple times) around what compression will i yeild with a det block with stock 8.5:1 pistons, a vvl metal headgasket, and a stock unported vvl head.

this will be an ongoing motor build for some time as money gets stored away for it.

wasn't it 9.1:1? or somewhere around there. You could prob buy some VET pistons from Greg V and throw them into your motor unless you don't plan on cracking the bottom end open. You could use the DE block too and just tune it right around the compression.

i think as long as its below 9.5:1 i should be okay. i dont really want to open up the bottom end unless i really have to.

the 8.5:1 pistons make 9.3:1 compression in a VET. It works pretty good for pump gas. I ran 17psi on my vet with this compression ratio in winter with no issues whatsoever. But I have decided to go lower compression for that margin of safety.

im thinking of a de block since they have the 8cw crank and basically other than the pistons and oil squirters they are the same. running a little larger than stock HG and the vvl head on it..
my local tuner just made 380 whp on a completely stock de with a t3/to4e at 18psi on a moderate tune.. thing is a beast
